Who taught you the most about work?

Society has its myths about where we learn – internships, books, school, etc.  However, in our conversations with some of the most interesting and trailblazing entrepreneurs and creatives we noticed the biggest lessons they learned about work often came from unexpected sources.  We’ve shared some of those responses below.

Greg Tomka

My dad. Not necessarily about what the work is per se (my dad is a retired banker and I can only skim the surface of what his day to day job was). But more importantly, the WHY. And the why is simple. It’s for your family – which is the impetus for everything I do in in regards to Mr. Putters Miniature Golf. Read more >>>

My parents taught me the value of work and that things simple need to be done and not ignored. My dad was a World War II vet and a New York City police officer and detective. My mom was a stay at home mom, then got a gig when my dad retired. I think that’s why they lasted so long. Read more >>>

Kaja Johnpierre

My mom definitely taught me the most about work. She’s always had that entrepreneurial mindset, never worked for anyone in her life, and growing up I watched her build multiple businesses. She’s one of the hardest-working women I know, and she always pushed me, encouraged me, and spoke life into me. She even invested in my first business, which meant everything. Read more >>>

Jake Klopfenstein

This question is easily answered by my Dad and the projects he ‘forced’ me to do. Since I was about 10, every couple of months he has a big project that he wants us to help on, these projects ranged from fixing one of our cars to fixing or installing something in the house or backyard.
