We’re looking forward to introducing you to Mallary Denson. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Mallary, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me starts with a moment to get grounded and set my intentions for the day. I like to review my schedule, organize my to-do list, and prepare for any upcoming shoots or client meetings. Some days are filled with photo sessions, where I’m working on location or in the studio capturing families, maternity moments, or birthdays. Other days are focused on editing, planning future sessions, updating galleries, or brainstorming creative concepts for upcoming projects. I also spend time connecting with clients and keeping my business organized behind the scenes. Every day is different, but I always make time to stay inspired and focus on growth.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Mallary Denson, and I’m the owner and photographer behind Captured by Mallary, based in Tampa, Florida. I specialize in family, maternity, and birthday photography, creating timeless images that tell real, emotional stories. What makes my work special is the way I connect with each client to bring out their natural beauty and genuine emotion. I want every person who steps in front of my camera to feel seen, confident, and celebrated.
Captured by Mallary started from my love of preserving memories and has grown into a brand that focuses on creating meaningful experiences, not just beautiful photos. Each session is designed to reflect the personality and emotion of my clients, whether it’s the joy of a growing family, the excitement of a first birthday, or the love shared in a quiet moment. Right now, I’m expanding my work to include more creative concepts and lifestyle sessions that capture the essence of everyday life in an artistic and authentic way.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My parents saw me clearly before I could see myself. They always recognized my creative side and encouraged me to follow it, even when I wasn’t sure where it would lead. Their belief in my talent gave me the confidence to keep going, to take risks, and to build something of my own. They reminded me that my vision mattered long before I fully understood it myself.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of failure has held me back the most. For a long time, I worried about not being good enough or making mistakes that could set me back. That fear made me second-guess myself and sometimes kept me from taking opportunities that could have helped me grow. Over time, I’ve learned that failure is a part of progress. Every setback has taught me something valuable and pushed me to become stronger, more creative, and more confident in my purpose.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies in the photography industry is that success depends solely on having the best equipment or a massive following. While tools and visibility help, they don’t define true artistry or connection. Another common misconception is that photography is easy or that anyone can do it with a good camera. What people don’t always see is the time, emotion, and dedication that go into creating meaningful work and building client trust. The industry sometimes overlooks the importance of authenticity, storytelling, and genuine relationships, which are the real foundation of lasting success.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I made them feel seen, valued, and beautiful. That my work captured real emotions and preserved moments that meant something. I want to be remembered as someone who used her creativity to bring joy and connection into people’s lives. Beyond photography, I hope my story reflects kindness, resilience, and a deep love for helping others see the best in themselves.
