We’re looking forward to introducing you to Keera Belviy. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Keera, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I started my business, Vital Surf Gear! It is tough, but rewarding work to build a cohesive aesthetic that flows together under one brand. It takes a mindset that prioritizes values, creativity, and intention. For me, putting sustainability first, while also creating unique, useful surf gear is something I’m really proud of.
A lot of people think you need a lot of money to start a business, however I just started small with what I had. I genuinely saw a need for the designs and ideas I had. It grew from a passion project into a response to the absence of bold, purpose-driven surf products for women. I spent time researching the logistics and sustainable materials needed that stayed true to my values, and set out to bring that vision to life.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Keera, the one woman force behind Vital Surf Gear. I design functional, one-of-a-kind surf wear for sladies (surfer-ladies), born from a passion sparked by the lack of bold options out there. From a young age, I was determined to stay true to my independent nature and carve a path that solved real problems, not just for myself, but for others too.
Craving more time in the water, I found that creating a career where I could make my own schedule and design goods endlessly felt less like a choice and more like a calling.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
Thank goodness for a hardworking grandfather! He polished his shoes regularly and always emphasized the importance of showing up on time and well-dressed for the occasion. When I was younger, he also taught me the kind of patience I’d need to navigate the “real world.” His wisdom came in bite-sized pieces, but each one opened my eyes to something bigger.
One lesson that has stuck with me: in order to receive, you must first give. Whether that’s through your work, your relationships, or your friendships. Nothing in life is free, but if you’re willing to put in the work, the rewards will follow.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Don’t let anyone stop you from pursuing your dream, no matter how big it make seem.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. How do you differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts?
Fads are just that; short lived bursts of popularity. While they can work well for certain business models, our focus is on creating high quality goods with timeless designs, which offers more sustainability and value in the long run. To me, the key difference lies in intention: are you jumping on a bandwagon just because it’s trending, or are you creating from a true sense of purpose and need? Foundational shifts are rooted in long term change, not just temporary hype, and that’s where we choose to put our energy.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
Far out in the ocean, away from my phone, I get to be truly unreachable, and that’s a feeling most of us rarely experience anymore. I highly recommend everyone getting into some type of ocean activity so that they too can enjoy that kind of presence and peace that is becoming increasingly rare.
