We recently had the chance to connect with Julie Speetjens and have shared our conversation below.
Julie, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
Plenty of people hear “energy healing” or “psychic medium” and roll their eyes at what they perceive to be woo-woo nonsense. I chose to believe that it generally comes from ignorance, rather than malice, and that if they experienced it for themselves with the right practitioners, they would learn to appreciate what we do. I always encourage everyone to be skeptical but receptive, because Reiki training, and subsequently becoming a Psychic Medium as a result of it, has catapulted me out of the mundane rat race of the corporate world and brought life back to my life. It has revealed the magic that I felt was missing, introduced me to the most incredible friends, and propelled my world travels. Shifting from corporate to cosmic has truly been a miraculous glow up.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I discovered Reiki when corporate burnout, physical pain, traumatic grief, and the effects of life-long narcissistic abuse nearly swamped me. In search of my own healing, I found my true soul path and purpose as a Karuna Reiki Master Teacher and professional Psychic Medium! My passion is creating safe space to explore the power of energy healing, creating spiritual community, and empowering Empaths and Highly Sensitive People (HSP) to tune into their intuition. Hosting international retreats where I teach psychic mediumship development and Reiki certification classes with my wonderful colleagues is an incredibly rewarding calling, and I invite you to join me!
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I grew up falsely assuming that only certain special people could be psychics and mediums. Throughout my life, I was fascinated with spirituality, ESP, near-death experiences, and the meaning of life. I had so many questions! What happens when we die? Where do we go? Is there life after death? Is heaven real? Can we communicate with our lost loved ones? Are they still part of our lives? What’s the point of it all? Is God real? Can we reincarnate or do we only have one life to live? Does anyone hear my prayers? Who am I and why am I here? Maybe you’ve had some of these same questions.
It was my never-ending quest for answers and for my own healing that led me to Reiki. And it was during the course of my Reiki training that my mediumship abilities spontaneously blossomed in my early-40’s. I’m living proof that you don’t have to be “born” a medium, learning generational secrets passed down through the ages. Anyone who is called to it can do it, just like learning to speak a foreign language or play a musical instrument. And I can help.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You are enough. You are perfectly imperfect. You are loved, loving, and lovable. You don’t have to be perfect to be amazing. You are a divine, eternal soul being and you are not alone. Your life won’t be easy, but it will be incredible!
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
Unfortunately, most people love to judge eachother… reaching for validation and a false sense of security and superiority in looking down on people who are different. It’s basic human nature to be scared of what we don’t understand, but I have learned that contrast, individuality, and the sheer variety of the human experience is part of the magic. It’s why we’re here! I have come to believe that we choose, time and time again, to bring aspects of our soul essence into the physical body to learn, grow, and evolve in ways that we simply can’t anywhere else. That we have all of eternity to experience life from all angles, genders, colors, and cultures to expand our empathy and collect soul wisdom. We are God experiencing itself. Any more, when I see someone making choices that don’t feel right for me, or expressing opinions that don’t align with mine, I give myself permission to shift from judge to witness and think, “I appreciate the diversity of the human experience and I hope it brings them joy!” We can’t possibly fully understand what people need or want to experience on their earthly journeys this time around, or how it may serve them and those around them.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop second-guessing myself, playing small, and being afraid of failure. I would be braver, bolder, and adopt the attitude that I had nothing to lose. I would stop scrolling social media so much and spend more time with my toes in the sand on beaches around the world.
