Story & Lesson Highlights with Jorge Styles of Tampa FL

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jorge Styles. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Jorge, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is a normal day like for you right now?
I still work a 9-5 so before I go in for that, I’ll go to the gym and drop my son off at school before getting ready for work. Thank GOD I have a cool job that doesn’t drain me, which I’m super grateful for. After work, I’ll paint / create content until however late I feel inspired. Usually around 11pm sometimes 3am. Then if I have a great day creating art / fashion , the next day I’ll focus more on content creation. Me and my wife are also event coordinators for our apartments which means a lot of marketing and event planning as well. I’ll chase my dreams no matter the cost. If I have to work 40 hours a week in a job, 20 hours a week event coordinating, and use every other hour for art, if that’s what it takes, I’ll do it.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Jorge Styles, and I’m a creative. I run Jorge Styles Atelier for my art and fashion. I do art in a neo-expressionism style and make 1/1 hand painted clothes as well. I use the word “creative” for what I do because I paint, design clothes, and do digital design too. While most people take art very seriously, I believe in approaching my art in a child like mindset and being creatively free and letting my creations show through that. I’m making it fun to be a creative!

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was exactly who I’ve grown into today. I believe at the core of it, we’re all told to change, but our most authentic selves is when we were 5-7 years old, without a care in the world, living free. It’s taken a lot of reprogramming and learning, but I have been who I’m meant to be for awhile now. Think back to when you were maybe 6 years old, and that’s your purest, most authentic self.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
It’s between anxiety and looking cringe to people on social media. As I’ve done more art shows and social events, I’ve noticed a pattern. The people I meet now love the idea that I make art, create content, do creative things! The people that knew me before I was pursuing my art will always look at that as cringe, because they’ll never see me as I see me. That’s the big thing. The people you meet as your best self will see you like that, and the people that knew you in your worst will most likely always see you like that. It’s not up to you to change their mind about you. Your responsibility is to yourself only. Be all you can be, and you’ll attract those that see you how you truly see yourself and want the best for you.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me is 100% the most authentic me you get. I used to put on different personas depending on who I was with, where I was, but it was exhausting. I have different moods of course, but I’ll never change who I am or dull my light to make others feel comfortable. I am always, and will always be, 100% me.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
Every person experienced joy and love when they spoke to me. I want to be a shining light to everyone around me. Someone who was like a lighthouse; when people needed light, they looked to me, my art.
