Story & Lesson Highlights with Jessika Hatter of Midtown south tampa

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jessika Hatter. Check out our conversation below.

Jessika, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about your customers?
The most surprising thing I’ve learned about my customers is that hair isn’t just a luxury; it’s part of who we are. Each strand isn’t just a dead cell; it’s part of their identity, and keeping it healthy changes the way they carry themselves through the world.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Jessika aka BeautybyMaddHatter, a hairstylist in Tampa specializing in healthy color and helping clients achieve their dream shades. My focus is on keeping hair strong and vibrant while bringing each client’s vision to life, guiding them on a long-term hair journey rather than just a single appointment. What makes my work unique is the combination of technical expertise, attention to detail, and the care I put into understanding each client’s vision; helping them feel confident, seen, and truly themselves in every transformation.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
The person who saw me clearly before I saw myself is Fernando Santa Maria, my mentor, collaborator, and guide. I first met him in beauty school, and two years later he invited me to work with him. Even as a baby stylist, he gave me the guidance and platform to grow on my own terms, to be the stylist I am today while staying a present mother and shaping my career the way I wanted.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I’d tell my younger self to trust the timing of your journey. You may not have known exactly how to get there, but every step , every detour, challenge, and experience was preparing you to find your place in this industry and become the stylist you’re meant to be.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, the public me is the real me. We all wear masks at times, and I do too, but at my core, I am always authentically myself. Whether I’m bringing a client’s dream hair to life, or showing up as a mom, a friend, or a fellow human, it’s all me, fully present, fully alive, and entirely true.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people remember me as someone who showed up fully, in my work, as a mom, and in every relationship I had. Someone who helped others feel seen and confident, who created spaces where people could be themselves, and who lived with intention and authenticity. I want the story they tell to be that I cared deeply, loved fiercely, and made a positive impact in the lives I touched.
