Isabella Diaz shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Isabella, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I’ve sort of built these eras for each of my songs and my album, defined by certain looks, colors, and aesthetics. For example, fans of mine might describe my “Wannabe” era as sharp, purple, and mysterious. This is really different from my “Cologne” era, which is classy, flirty, and clean. The music videos for my singles really help set those tones.
It’s been rewarding being able to sense the visual differences between my releases through the years. I’m proud of my work and glad that my artistic ideas are translating well on social platforms. It’s like each of my songs live in visual worlds with personalities of their own that I can channel during performances. And the best part is that my fans are picking up on this and living in those worlds with me.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a Pop singer-songwriter, producer, and artist from Tampa, Florida. I’ve been releasing originals for five years. I create in my home studio, and I frequently perform throughout Tampa and in surrounding areas. When writing lyrics, my goal is to express feelings such as excitement, hope, internal struggles, and romance in ways that are relatable to all and cohere to the overall sound of the music. My music is influenced by various genres, including R&B, Reggae, and Alternative/Indie. Because of this, my songs range from chill, Pop-R&B vibes to upbeat, Pop-Rock bangers to atmospheric, synth-heavy ballads with lushly stacked vocals. My childhood dream of making an album finally came true last summer with the release of “Trapped In Time”.
While managing college life and a music career, there are moments when performances and releases are not as frequent. But my passion for writing and my love for producing persist. I’m excited to be releasing a brand new single called “Miami” on January 16th. This is actually my first release since the album! Work on “Miami” began years ago, but it’s finally ready for the world.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
My mom is the most hardworking person I know. She is also very knowledgeable about the entertainment industry and reminds me of what it takes to be a true artist. Throughout my artistic discovery, she and my dad have supported me and inspired me tremendously, providing feedback and encouragement. While the reward is worth the cost, being an artist–especially an independent artist–is not easy. A lot of work happens behind the scenes. In my case, that’s all done by myself and a small group of close individuals, and I appreciate all the support I can get. My team is small but mighty. And whenever I have questions about artistry or direction, my mom always has the knowledge to guide me.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
Most recently, I’ve found that songs are much easier to write when I’m detailed and unfiltered about my emotions. In times of powerlessness, I turn to my piano. Hearing a finished product helps me regain autonomy.
In the past, I’ve adjusted words or simplified themes to make songs more applicable to a general audience. But when I listen to other artists, the songs I connect with the most are those that are vulnerable and have lyrical depth. Maybe the same can be true for my audiences as I continue to release new music with even more rawness and figurative language.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me is the real me, but it’s not the complete story. I’m selective with what I share based on context because privacy is important to me. On social media, I present myself as authentically as possible, but I reserve personal experiences and relationships for the people I’m closest to. I’m intentional about keeping the boundary between my profession and my personal life intact.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
The beach is my happy place! It always has been. I grew up in Tampa, so I’ve had some of the world’s most famous beaches within minutes to hours of home. I find comfort in a gentle sea breeze and the sound of crashing waves at the shoreline. A good beach day with great company instantly relieves stress and brings me bliss.
