Story & Lesson Highlights with Devin Constant of St. Petersburg

Devin Constant shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Devin, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: Who are you learning from right now?
I believe the most important person to learn from is admittedly yourself , for only through mistakes and experience can true wisdom be derived

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Devin Constant and I am the founder of DevinC.io , A digital integrations consultancy for the Art industry and Large scale AV installation studio and fabricator. We make cutting edge audiovisual public artworks works that combine machine learning with bespoke forms.
Based in St. Petersburg, we service festivals, private client work , and corporate activations.
From centerpiece exhibitions for art basel to architectural scale projection mapping at renown locations, we have a full suite of in-house capabilities, from augmented reality to web-based systems custom fitted for any business.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
From recent memory, I’ve been able to successfully consider how to make large scale, public artworks more accessible through the access that the worldwide Web can provide, moving physical, immersive environments into a digital space Able able to be entered through a website , effectively this took the shape of a revelation allowing me to continue to streamline my efforts into my new tech startup

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
At the core all creators are starving Artists, and being able to give artistic individuals a creative platform has always been my goal from running community spaces to art galleries, my vision has been clear to serve others through self expression, such that it can spark insight and wonder. This I believe has otherwise allowed me to consider life is more beautiful when you stop to smell the roses, especially if it’s because their thorns pricked you first

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
Within the art world, we are under the impression that technique, skill and being prolific or what it takes to “make it”.

However, it seems at times this couldn’t be further from the truth the classic saying, I think hold more true than ever ultimately your net worth is your network. In the age of viral content, it is still truly about who you know and the physical space is that you occupy, it’s all about being the one that gets the call at the end of the day. so show up , be true, and be yourself

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I suppose I hope my efforts don’t go unnoticed, but for the fact that they haven’t while I’m alive I’ve got good odds. All we can hope to do is ultimately have fun and that’s what is at the top of my to-do list every day. I feel honored to have allowed that to permeate into other people’s existence as to inspire and uplift through personal self expression. So they say , you are never dead until your name is spoken last.
