Story & Lesson Highlights with Ashley Parker of Old Seminole Heights

Ashley Parker shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Ashley, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: When was the last time you felt true joy?
My last time I felt true joy was in Jamaica, an island with tropical beauty and fruit trees, where i got to be carefree and free of oligations.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Ashley Parker, founder of Love Our Curls. We are a brand and salon focused on helping people embrace, understand, and love their natural hair. I specialize in healthy curl care and low-maintenance styling. I prioritize education and consistency over quick fixes.

What makes Love Our Curls unique is our holistic approach. It’s not just about styling; it’s about building confidence and teaching clients how to care for their curls every day. My goal is to change the way people view textured hair. I want to remind them that their curls are beautiful at every stage of their journey.

Currently, I’m focused on expanding my Wash & Go Membership Program. I’m also creating more educational content to help people reconnect with their natural texture and maintain healthy, hydrated hair between salon visits.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling powerful came when I was 16. I saved up $300 to buy my first cosmetology kit. I was making only $7.25 an hour and worked about six hours a week, so it took me a while to reach that goal. When I finally bought that kit, it was more than just a purchase. It showed me that I could invest in myself and my dreams. That moment taught me the value of patience, discipline, and the idea that small steps can lead to something much bigger.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There was a time when I nearly gave up. After I moved, I had to start over and rebuild my clientele. It was discouraging. In 2017, I left the salon entirely and took a job in finance. For a while, I believed that part of my life was finished. But deep down, my passion for hair and helping others feel confident in their natural beauty never really faded. That time away reminded me how much I needed to do what I love. Returning to it with a new outlook made me appreciate the journey even more.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I’m dedicated to creating effective beauty formulas and services that make self-care affordable. My goal is to help people look and feel their best while saving time and money. I believe beauty and confidence shouldn’t cost a lot. Everyone deserves products and services that genuinely fit their lifestyle, regardless of their budget. It’s a long-term mission, but I am passionate about seeing it through.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m in the salon. Over time, I’ve created an environment that is calm, welcoming, and nurturing, not just for my clients, but for myself too. It’s a space where creativity, connection, and care come together. That energy brings me a deep sense of peace.
