Stacey Kensinger shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Stacey, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
One of our clients turned 100 years young this week! She has been participating 3x per week in our in- home personal training sessions for 2 years and she is as spunky as ever!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Stacey Kensinger, co-founder of In Home Senior Fitness. We bring personalized fitness training directly into the homes of older adults, helping them stay strong, safe, and independent. What makes us unique is our physical and occupational therapy backgrounds using our expertise in geriatric rehab to focus on blending exercise with real-life functionality, balance, mobility, and daily living skills- so seniors can keep doing the things they love with confidence. My mission is to redefine aging by showing that fitness is the key to living longer, healthier, and more joyfully.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I believed that success meant following a very traditional path of getting one job, staying there for decades, and keeping everything safe and predictable. I also thought I had to do everything perfectly to be ‘good enough.’ Over time, I’ve let go of those beliefs. I’ve learned that my true strength lies in taking risks, creating my own opportunities, and embracing imperfection as part of growth. That shift in mindset is what allowed me to start In Home Senior Fitness and build a business that reflects my passion and values.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
No, I’ve never truly felt like giving up. My upbringing and the military taught me resilience, discipline, and the mindset to push through challenges instead of walking away from them. Of course, there have been tough days in business and I questioned whether I could really make it work early on. But every time I visited a client who told me, ‘You’ve changed my life,’ it reminded me why I started. That impact gave me the strength to keep going.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would probably say that what really matters to me is people- caring for them, showing up for them, and helping them feel their best. They’d tell you I am most joyful when I see someone gain confidence or accomplish something they didn’t think they could. They’d also say I value connection, honesty, and laughter, and that I put my whole heart into the relationships and work I care about most.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
I think people might misunderstand my legacy by assuming I always had the resources, connections, or easy opportunities to succeed. In reality, I grew up with limited options and a rough start that taught me resilience early on. My path to building In Home Senior Fitness wasn’t about shortcuts—it was about hard work, discipline, and a clear vision. What I hope people see in my legacy is that success doesn’t depend on where you come from, but on the determination and purpose you bring to what you do.
