Shymira Wilson shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Shymira, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Integrity, always. Intelligence and energy can be powerful, but they’re most meaningful when they’re rooted in integrity. It’s the foundation that shapes character and intention.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Shymira Wilson, and I’m a multidisciplinary creative working across fashion, brand strategy, styling, and creative direction. I build worlds around aesthetics: whether that’s through clothing, visual storytelling, or reimagining how people and brands express themselves. My work is rooted in individuality, confidence, and cultural nostalgia, often pulling inspiration from early 2000s iconography, street-luxury, and unapologetic femininity. What makes my approach unique is that I don’t just create products or visuals. I curate identity. Everything I touch is intentional, from the way a garment feels to how a brand shows up visually and emotionally. Right now, I’m focused on expanding my fashion and creative projects while continuing to collaborate with brands and individuals who aren’t afraid to stand out and tell bold stories.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I believed I could be anything I wanted to be. Now I understand that my path is guided by God I can only become what He intends for me. It’s His world we’re just living in it.
What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
My clothing brand was my first love. But I realized it wasn’t where I wanted it to be for myself or for my name. I wanted stronger designs, better fabrics, elevated manufacturing, and clearer branding. I was doing everything on my own while surrounded by the wrong crowds, and after being burned by two manufacturers, I made the difficult decision to step back. That pause wasn’t giving up it was a conscious choice to educate myself more deeply about the fashion industry so that when I rebrand and return, it will be with intention, and a much stronger foundation.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I’m committed to building work that reflects purpose and excellence, even if it takes longer than expected. Whether it’s my brand or the worlds I create through fashion and creative direction, I believe in doing things the right way ethically, thoughtfully, and with trust. I’m not interested in rushing or taking shortcuts. I trust that what’s meant for me will unfold in God’s timing, and I’m willing to take the long road if it means creating something that truly represents my name, my values, and my vision.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
What I understand deeply that most people don’t is foundation and hierarchy. So many think they can just dream about something, wake up, and it will magically appear. but that’s not how life works. Anything worth having is worth working for. Sometimes it takes 20 years or more filled with blood, sweat, tears, humiliation, hunger, etc. But when you push through, God shows you why it was all worth it. Everything has levels, and sometimes you have to learn from those above or around you, respecting their space and wisdom, rather than betraying them trying to bypass your way forward.
