We’re looking forward to introducing you to Rose Campbell. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Rose, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Integrity matters to me most because it’s the foundation of ethical standards. I always work to make the best decision I can based on my principles and the information I have at the time. Even if I fall short, I hold myself accountable and learn from it. While being intelligent and having energy are great, they should be used for the greater good.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Rose, and I’m the fragrance alchemist behind Good Smells Inc. I’ve always been fascinated by the way scent can unlock memories, shift moods, and make everyday life feel a little more magical. With my AAPI roots, fragrance has always been part of my story, from the kitchen to family traditions, so creating with scent feels like a natural extension of who I am.
Good Smells Inc is my artisan line of non-toxic, eco-conscious home and body products made with intention. What makes us unique is our focus on clean, sustainable ingredients and small-batch craftsmanship. Our candles are made with 100% soy or beeswax and eco-friendly wood wicks, our soaps are infused with goat milk, honey, and pure essential oils, and even our pet sprays are researched for animal safety. I also make it a priority to source ingredients locally and support American farms whenever possible. My mission is to create products that are safe, thoughtful, and deeply tied to memory and experience because I believe scent should tell a story.
I’m also proud to announce that I received the Gold in my country’s Readers Choice awards for craftsperson and Bronze in pet supplies. That was pretty exciting.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I’ve always been unapologetically myself, even when life asked me to wear different versions of that self. Growing up in a military family meant moving often, and with each new place came a chance to adapt, to shift, and to grow into someone slightly different. Not because the world told me who to be, but because I learned how to navigate change with curiosity and resilience.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
I’ve experienced many defining wounds in my life—more than I could ever count, and I wouldn’t want to. I don’t try to forget them, and while I can’t say I’m fully healed, I have learned to live with them. They’ve shaped who I am, and I carry very few regrets about the person I’ve become at my core.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
My father. He consistently chose to do the right thing, even when it cost him or put him at a disadvantage. Watching him live by that example taught me that true character isn’t about winning, it’s about holding onto your values no matter the outcome.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
None. When I’m gone, I don’t want to be remembered, I’d prefer to simply fade away, as though I was never here at all.
