Roberto Nieves of South Tampa on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Roberto Nieves. Check out our conversation below.

Roberto, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about your customers?
One of the most surprising things I’ve learned about my customers is just how many of them have the potential to be incredible entrepreneurs but don’t see it in themselves. So often, people hold back because they think they’re not ‘good enough’ or don’t fit the mold of what they believe an entrepreneur should be. But when they start to share their ideas, their passion, and their unique perspectives, it’s clear they have everything it takes. It’s been inspiring to watch people realize that their authenticity and drive are their greatest assets—and that success doesn’t come from being perfect, but from being willing to start. I love reminding them about how awesome they are. My consultations usually feel like a therapy session, with how much I let them realize how great they are.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Roberto Nieves, and I’m passionate about helping people unlock their potential and turn their ideas into something extraordinary with Brand Strategy and/or Website Design. Through my work, I focus on empowering aspiring entrepreneurs to see the value in their unique perspectives and take that leap of faith. What makes my journey special is that I’ve been where many of my customers are—unsure, doubting myself, and wondering if I had what it takes. That experience fuels everything I do, from creating resources to sharing stories that inspire others to believe in themselves.

Right now, I’m working on mostly Website Design, and helping people show themselves online as the expert in their fields. I’m excited to connect with more people who are ready to embrace their potential and make their mark.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I believed I couldn’t communicate well with others because of a bad stutter. I was often labeled as ‘shy’ or ‘an introvert,’ but the truth was, I just felt trapped—like people were judging me every time I struggled to get my words out. It took years of therapy and a lot of self-work, but I’ve learned that I was never shy; I just needed the tools to express the person I always was. That experience taught me so much about how it feels to be misunderstood or underestimated, and it’s why I’m so passionate about helping others break free from the mindset of worrying about what others think. Everyone has something valuable to share, and I love helping people find their voice and show the world who they truly are.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear that held me back the most was the constant worry of people not liking me. Whether it was in an interview or trying to sell a product, I felt like I had to prove myself—almost like I was begging for their approval or business. That mindset kept me stuck for a long time. But everything changed when I flipped the script and started believing that they needed me more than I needed them. That shift in confidence not only transformed my business but also the way I carried myself. I stopped chasing and started attracting the right people, and it’s been a game-changer ever since.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies my industry tells itself is that success hinges on having the perfect strategy, the perfect pitch, or even the perfect website. There’s this myth that a shiny new website or branding will magically change everything, but the truth is, it’s not the website that makes the difference—it’s the person behind it. A website is just a tool; it can amplify your message, but it can’t create the confidence, passion, or belief in your value that truly drives success. The real transformation happens when people shift their mindset, embrace their unique strengths, and show up authentically. The website is just the cherry on top—it’s the person that makes the real impact.

That’s why I don’t only help build websites, I help build the person!

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Have you ever gotten what you wanted, and found it did not satisfy you?
Yes, I’ve definitely experienced that. Everything in life has its pros and cons, but that doesn’t mean you’re on the wrong path—it just means you might need to adjust your approach. When I landed a full-time job at a marketing agency doing website design, I thought I had achieved my dream. But instead, I found myself deeply unhappy. Not only was the work environment not fulfilling, but I also noticed that the agency wasn’t running a morally good business—they were lying to their clients, and that didn’t sit right with me. It wasn’t that I didn’t love what I was doing—I just realized I couldn’t thrive in a space that didn’t align with my values. So, I pivoted and discovered that working for myself was the solution I needed. It taught me that sometimes, it’s not about giving up on your passion—it’s about finding a different way to pursue it, one that aligns with who you are.
