Today we’d like to introduce you to Shokofeh Sora.
Hi Shokofeh, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have always had an interest in the creative arts. Many years ago, when blogs were a thing, I had a food blog where I recreated recipes and photographed the food. However, when I had my first son 9 years ago, I found no longer had time for that. Instead, I started documenting our everyday life and as the years went by, I had two more children. One day, a friend told me about an app called Instagram. She said it was a photo-sharing app where I could post all these pictures I was taking. Really not knowing anything about social media, I started posting and my pictures resonated with people as my account grew quite quickly. With that came others who wanted me to photograph them and companies who wanted to work with me and so my company and new career was born.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing is ever a smooth road. Not having any formal education in any creative arts, I had to learn everything myself. Also, having 3 young children and working is always very difficult. I would put my kids to bed and start working at 9 pm because that was the only quiet time I had. However, I truly loved what I was doing and so for me, it was a labor of love and an escape.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a portrait photographer. I mostly specialize in children and families. I also do product photography for a lot of small online shops. I am mostly known for my child photography. What sets my work apart is that I really try to tell a story or invoke a feeling with each photograph. My work goes beyond a snapshot. I like to feel like I am creating art. Post-processing is also a big part of my work. I always try to take every picture to the next level. I think what sets me apart is my vision and attention to detail. I love fairytales and classic stories like Harry Potter and I am not afraid to bring those elements to my work.
