Today we’d like to introduce you to Neysa A. Monzon Torres.
Hi Neysa A., thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Sarobey Designs really started from my love for crafting by hand. I’ve always been drawn to sewing, experimenting with fabrics, and turning simple materials into something beautiful. It began with decorative pillows, bandanas, and small accessories like passport holders, all made from scratch. I started selling my work at artisan markets around Puerto Rico, and those experiences helped me find my confidence as a maker. There’s something special about meeting people face to face, seeing their reactions, and sharing the story behind every piece.
A little later, I met Jomar, who was my coworker at that time, he was making small earrings and creative designs with the use of 3d printing and design, and I was immediately curious about the technology. I invited him to join me at one of the markets in Caguas, and that’s where everything really began. Seeing our crafts side by side — my handmade pieces and his printed creations — felt natural, like two different art forms speaking the same language.
A few months later, we got an amazing opportunity to be part of Comic Con Puerto Rico, which is the biggest convention on the island. We didn’t have a ton of products, so we decided to share a booth and combine our efforts. That event changed everything. People loved what we were doing together, and it made us realize how powerful it could be to blend traditional craftsmanship with modern design.
That’s when Sarobey Designs was born — a reflection of both our passions and our Boricua roots. What started as a small table at local markets has grown into a creative brand that celebrates culture, storytelling, and handmade artistry.
Today, we design and make 3D printed bookmarks, scrunchies, and tote bags, each one created with intention and heart. Every piece represents where we come from, what we love and who we are as artists.
Everything we make is — and always will be — Crafted con Corazón Boricua.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, I’ll be honest. Like most small creative businesses, we’ve faced our share of challenges. When we first started, we were figuring everything out on our own — from materials and pricing to how to present our products and connect with customers. There were moments when we doubted ourselves, especially during slow markets or when a new idea didn’t go as planned.
When we moved from artisan markets to selling online, it was another learning curve. We had to adapt to new platforms, figure out shipping, and stand out among so many talented creators. But every obstacle has taught us something valuable — how to be patient, stay consistent, and trust the process.
What’s kept us going is our love for what we do and the amazing support from our customers. Every message, every returning customer, every smile at a market reminds us that all the effort is worth it. The road hasn’t been smooth, but it’s been full of growth — and we wouldn’t trade that journey for anything.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a full time artist and maker, I’ve always been drawn to the process of creating with my hands — bringing ideas to life through texture, color, and detail. At Sarobey Designs, I specialize in handcrafted fabric goods like scrunchies and tote bags, and together with my partner Jomar, we design 3D printed bookmarks and accessories that merge art with innovation.
What I’m most proud of is how we’ve managed to build a brand that feels true to who we are — one that celebrates our creativity and craftsmanship. Every piece we create carries a story, whether it’s inspired by culture, nature, or simply the joy of making something that brightens someone’s day.
What sets us apart is our mix of traditional handcrafting and modern 3D design. We love experimenting with both worlds — combining technology and artistry to create products that are unique, personal, and full of heart.
I think people connect with our work because it’s authentic and intentional. We don’t mass produce — we craft. Every stitch, every print, every design comes from us. Our goal has always been to make things that people not only use but also feel connected to.
At the end of the day, what fulfills me most as a creative is knowing that our pieces carry a bit of home, culture, and love.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
I’ve been really lucky to have so many amazing people supporting me along the way. My mom, dad, and sister have always been my biggest cheerleaders. From the very beginning, they encouraged me to follow my passion for creating, even when it wasn’t the easiest or most traditional path. My mom and dad especially has been such an inspiration — they’ve always believed in the value of hard work and creativity, and that’s something I carry into everything I make.
My family and friends have also played a huge part in our journey. Whether it’s helping set up our booth, spreading the word about our work, or just reminding us to keep going when things get tough — their support has meant the world to us.
And of course, my husband, Jomar, deserves so much credit. He’s not only my partner in Sarobey Designs but also my biggest supporter. He’s the one who cheers me up when I doubt myself, helps me find solutions when things get challenging, and reminds me why we started this journey in the first place. His creativity and encouragement keep me grounded and inspired every day.
Honestly, Sarobey Designs wouldn’t be what it is today without the people who have believed in us from the start. Their love, faith, and support are what keep me motivated and grateful through every step of this creative journey.
