Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Agudelo.
Hi Laura, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
All my life I’ve had a passion for traveling and with that came my love for photography. From candid photos of people/places to destination photography, I take my social media following on a journey from different perspectives of where I’ve ventured to. Being Florida-raised, I’ve had the privilege of having Orlando, Miami, Florida Keys, and Tampa/Downtown St. Pete as regular go-to destinations. I’ve also traveled everywhere from New York City, Tennessee, New Jersey, Philly, and Georgia all the way to Puerto Rico, Colombia, and Belize. I started out doing iPhone photography for my personal accounts as well as taking photos for my friends and family life events like birthdays, graduations, or just for fun at the beaches and downtowns. Following in my father’s footsteps, I always had a passion for photography and with the support of friends and family, I was gifted my first real camera set and started my photography page & business. Since starting my business I’ve had the opportunity to photograph a wedding, gender reveal, and personality/portrait photos for other clients. My goal for 2022 is to grow my Instagram page in hopes of getting more exposure and expand my portfolio to soon build my business to a full-time career. Photography is an art with endless possibilities and perspectives, being the most beautiful thing about seeing life through a lens.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Having had the opportunity to watch my dad run his own photography business our whole lives, photography came very easy to me. Observing his lighting techniques, how he edited and what type of photography he focused on helped me discover techniques. I learned what kind of photos I liked to take and what I didn’t like. I learned which angles worked best, what settings I liked to shoot, and what time of day I felt the most confident shooting in. I’ve been very grateful to have been able to navigate through my photography journey thus far without any major issues or blocks. With everything, practice makes perfect and every day is a new lesson!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Being an individual with many hats comes with its pros and cons. I’ve always been the type to always say yes in the moment and figure it out later, especially when it comes to photography. During the week I have my office job and on weekends I bartend and everywhere in between work & travel I run my photography business. From answering DM’s, scheduling photoshoots, and endless hours of editing… I somehow get it done. I’m most proud of my work ethic. My whole life I’ve always performed at my best in everything I am asked to do, with a smile on my face even if under that smile is exhaustion and defeat. Starting a business on top of already juggling a full-time workload hasn’t been the easiest but I am grateful for every opportunity I’ve been given to learn and grow, especially showcasing my talents and making others happy through my work. What I’ve been told by so many people is that they love my perspective. I don’t aim to be a photographer who stages photos or has a specific way of having people pose or interact… I just let it happen. The best part of my photos are the ones that aren’t planned or expected. I let my clients be themselves and capture everything in between, those are my favorite moments. Sometimes you just need to let the session flow without trying to figure out what the next pose is going to be, whether they’re looking at the camera or not, whether the lighting is perfect or too much/little. Being a lifestyle photography allows you to expand in so many ways without restricting yourself to a certain category.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The most important quality to my success is building relationships with those who believe in your work and uplifting others. I’ve had the opportunity to photograph all sorts of different people, but the best part of my job is being able to witness those beautiful moments that are so sacred for others and knowing that I helped create a lifelong memory for them while also creating a new friendship in the process. It’s never about the money or the exposure when running a business but rather focusing on being a change in someone’s life no matter how big or small it may seem and letting the rest happen. Helping build the confidence of others in the most humbling way and allowing them to feel comfortable enough to express themselves in any way they choose is what makes me the happiest and is the truest form of art.
