Today we’d like to introduce you to Julius.
Julius, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania in a little town called Windgap. I grew up in a lower middle class financial category. I grew up in a time, that saying sarcastic comments to your friends, were the norm. My friends were goofy and funny, as was I. After I graduated from high school, I enlisted in the Army and following the Army stint of three years (each year felt like a dog year). I went to college and received a BS in education. (Heavy on the BS). All through my life, I met a ton of “interesting people”. Most of them had two things in common. They had a lot of BS and I do not mean they had a BS diploma. They were BULLSHITTERS! The second thing they had were, they were freaking funny. In the back of my mind, I wanted to write a not Politically correct comedy book. I love comedy. It can be situation comedy, slap stick, observational, just to name a few. In the next few months, I will be publishing a book I wrote called: “Wingap – Stories and observations of Bullsh#tters”. If I may say so, its freaking funny. In our world today, we need people smiling and laughing. If my book can do this, I have done my job.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I first started to write, I had a goal of 20 pages to write a week. I would write in all hours of the day, if I thought of something that was funny. I would wake up in the middle of the night and go to the bathroom to write down what came in my subconscious. The more I began to write the comedy book, I passed the 20 pages a week goal, very quickly. (Wow, the last two words “very quickly”, I sound like Trump. FORGIVE ME!) Anyway, the writing of the book went pretty smooth. Setting up the chapters was also smooth. I struggled in the grammar, punctuation etc. The editing part was a challenge also. I overcame these obstacles.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I graduated from college with a BS in education. I became a schoolteacher. I taught K through 8 grades. When I started college, they needed teachers. When I graduated four years later there was a gluttony of teachers. My freaking luck. I did substitute teaching for about two years. One of the things I am proud, is that I was employed in the Pittsburgh city school system, as a full-time temporary substitute teacher. (Boy, say that ten times real fast, without messing up). It was at a middle school, called Martin Luther Middle School. The last teacher I replaced, the students were throwing chairs at her. I am proud to say, they DID NOT throw any chairs at me. Funny but true! Actually, I restored law and order to the classes that I taught. (Just like the Lone Ranger did on TV, which by the way is one of the chapters in my book, called “The Lone Ranger”) Sorry, I could not resist in promoting my book. After two years of substituting teaching, I went into the Health Care field. I eventually rose to middle management. I was Director of Environmental Services. It’s a classy way of saying; I was in total charge of housekeeping and laundry. It sounds like it was easy. It was very challenging. One minute you are talking to an hourly employee and the next minute you are talking to the VP of the hospital. You had to have great communication skills and a lot of technical skills, such as, but not limited to the proper cleaning chemicals and equipment to clean the facility. At one time I was in charge keeping clean a 500-bed hospital, including a 250 bed Nursing home and ten outside properties. I had 120 employees and seven supervisors under my supervision and over a million-dollar annual budget. One of the things I am proud of is writing and implementing 600-page policy and procedure manual for the hospital. In my career, I have won several awards, when I was employed by an outside cleaning company, to clean hospitals. The awards include highest inspection rate in the company district and manager of the year. in our district.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
When I first started in the health care field, I worked for a outside cleaning contractor, who professionally cleans hospitals. The company trained me in every aspect of the housekeeping and laundry field. It included but not limited to the day-to-day operations and how to make a budget from scratch. I can go on and on with regards to who deserves credit professionally. The people who deserve the most credit is my family. My wife and my two kids. They deserve the lion share of the credit. They are the best.
