Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessie Lorenzo.
Hi Jessie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Honestly, opening Lavish Lox Beauty Lounge in 2020 was a dream come true—something I had envisioned for over a decade. I always knew I wanted to build a career in beauty, but with my husband being in the military, we moved around a lot. It just wasn’t the right time to start something of my own when we were constantly on the go.
Once he was medically, retired from the military and we decided to settle down in Wesley Chapel, that’s when everything changed. I finally had the chance to put down roots and focus on me. I enrolled at Paul Mitchell The School Tampa, and from the moment I walked in, it felt like Disney World for adults! I was instantly inspired. I dove in headfirst, earned my Bellami Hair Extensions certification, and found my passion in blonding and balayage.
Now, ten years later, I’ve opened my own salon—and I couldn’t be more proud. I genuinely love what I do. Making women feel beautiful, confident, and like the best version of themselves is what drives me every single day.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Well, in the beginning, things felt like they were falling into place pretty smoothly. I had opened my dream salon, and everything was exciting and full of potential. But as time went on, I started to realize that not everyone has the same drive or work ethic—especially in this industry. A lot of people want the rewards without putting in the real effort, and that was a hard lesson to learn.
It shifted how I saw things, honestly. I had to take a step back and reevaluate how I wanted my salon to run. Now, I’m shifting my focus from a commission-based setup to more of a booth rental model. I want to create a space for other motivated, independent stylists who are ready to build their own brand but still be part of a supportive, professional environment.
At the end of the day, it’s just me and my salon right now—and I’m okay with that. I’ve built something I’m really proud of, and now I’m creating the kind of space I always wished existed when I was starting out.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in hair extensions—all types—and honestly, I love what I do. There’s just something about the transformation that happens when someone gets extensions… the way they light up when they see the final look? It’s the best feeling. I love being part of that moment where someone feels instantly more confident and beautiful.
I’m also really passionate about blonding services. Color, in general, is one of my favorite parts of doing hair—it’s creative, it’s challenging, and it’s so rewarding. But blonding? That’s truly my jam. I get excited every time I start a blonding session.
That said, my specialties are definitely extensions and blonding. It’s what I’m known for, and it’s where I’ve really put in the time and education to master my craft. I take a lot of pride in making sure every guest leaves my chair feeling amazing.
How do you define success?
For me, success in the hairstyling world isn’t just about having a booked-out schedule or a trendy salon—though those things are great. It’s really about creating a space where people feel seen, beautiful, and empowered. When a client sits in my chair and leaves feeling more confident than when they walked in—that’s success.
It’s also about staying true to your passion and adapting when the industry changes. I’ve learned that not everyone is going to match your drive, and that’s okay. Part of my success has been recognizing that and building a business model—like shifting to booth rentals—that supports the kind of energy and independence I want in my space.
At the end of the day, success to me means doing what I love, on my terms, while continuing to grow, evolve, and help other women feel their absolute best. That’s what makes it all worth it.
