Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Baetzel.
Hi Jasmine, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Storytelling has been a form of communication and tradition since the existence of mankind, and there’s something about visually capturing it that makes us human. It’s safe to say I had an immediate connection with the camera when I first picked it up about three years ago. After assisting a few weddings as a second photographer, I was hooked, and I immediately got to work on building up a portfolio and a reputable name for myself in hopes of becoming a full-time photographer. I already had a busy schedule as a student and believed it would take one to two years to meet my new career goals. However, I hit the ground running in my first year, capturing a whopping 85 weddings, eventually totaling up to 200 weddings by 2020. I can easily be considered new to both the wedding industry as well as photography. However, I worked around the clock building a professional reputation and name for myself.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Of course, there are daily struggles that come with being a jack-of-all-trades. Balancing business and personal time is one that sticks out the most, especially during any holiday season. Understanding the importance of self-care during a 70-hour workweek was the only way I was able to conquer any struggles that would present themselves, especially ones I had no prior experience in. This advice holds particularly true to the weight of stress COVID brought to small businesses, which hit my industry especially hard.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Specializing in a photojournalistic approach to the art and science of storytelling, I take pride in candidly capturing the personalities, relationships, and emotions that find their way in front of my camera. Photography is often-adored and over-pursued, and with that being said, I believe it’s important to stick out from the rest by staying yourself uniquely when creating your brand. It’s been a thrilling experience setting goals for myself and my business and seeing them unfold in such a short period of time. My most recent achievement can be found in British Vogue’s October-December issues’ A Vogue’s Love Story..’ where wedding vendors from around the globe are briefly acknowledged and recommended. I will continue to fine-tune my skillsets and improve on what I struggle most with on a regular basis, ultimately becoming the perfect atmosphere where my creativity can flourish.
Alright, so before we go, can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Collaborating is one of my favorite exercises that open doors to ideas I normally would not come up with. Follow me on social media and reach out if a project pops up that requires an artistic eye or a scientific mind, and let’s see what we can come up with!
