Today we’d like to introduce you to Janie Ridley
Hi Janie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey with Occasions Only started with a passion for creating visually stunning and delicious food experiences. What began as a mishap quickly turned into a love for hosting and designing aesthetically pleasing spreads . It quickly turned into a business when she realized how much joy and convenience her creations brought to others.
Seeing the demand for beautifully curated food displays, I expanded my offerings beyond just charcuterie boards to include grazing tables, food walls, cups, and even a delectable bite cart for unique celebrations. Over time, Occasions Only evolved into more than just a catering service—it became an art form, transforming ordinary events into unforgettable experiences.
Now, I cater to both private and corporate events, helping clients bring their vision to life through food artistry. With each event, I continues to innovate, ensuring that Occasions Only stands out as a one-of-a-kind service in the industry.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like any entrepreneurial journey, building Occasions Only hasn’t always been a smooth road. There were challenges along the way, but each obstacle helped shape the business into what it is today.
One of the biggest struggles was establishing the brand and educating potential clients about what makes Occasions Only unique. Since food artistry goes beyond traditional catering, it took time to show people that it’s more than just food—it’s an experience. Marketing and building awareness required persistence, creativity, and a lot of hands-on effort.
Another challenge was balancing creativity with logistics. Every event is different, and ensuring that each setup is visually stunning, fresh, and delivered seamlessly required fine-tuning processes, sourcing quality ingredients, and managing time efficiently.
Despite the challenges, the passion for bringing people together through beautifully curated food experiences has always been the driving force. Every struggle was an opportunity to learn and grow, and today, Occasions Only stands as a business that turns ordinary moments into unforgettable occasions.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in creating stunning food art experiences that go beyond traditional catering. Our offerings include charcuterie boards, grazing tables, food walls, cups, and a unique delectable bite cart—all designed to make any event visually and tastefully unforgettable. Whether it’s a private gathering, corporate function, or special celebration, our goal is to bring people together through beautifully curated displays that are both artistic and delicious.
What sets Occasions Only apart is our focus on the experience rather than just the food. We don’t just assemble cheese and meats we craft edible art that enhances the atmosphere of an event. Every detail, from color coordination to ingredient selection, is intentional and customized to match the client’s vision.
One of the things Im most proud of is the ability to turn ordinary occasions into extraordinary moments. Seeing clients’ reactions when they walk into an event and are wowed by the setup is incredibly rewarding. It’s not just about serving food—it’s about creating memories, sparking conversation, and elevating celebrations in a way that lingers long after the last bite.
I’m incredibly proud of what I have built and what we have become, but even more grateful for my parents, who showed me the value of hard work. Their influence drives my passion for turning ordinary moments into unforgettable experiences through food artistry. Because of this I want to educate our community on the art of food and culture .
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories is when my father would come home after the wars, and my mother, despite being foreign, would prepare all his favorite foods. She took the time to learn the ways of the culture, using food as a way to bring our family together. Those meals weren’t just about nourishment—they were a symbol of love, resilience, and unity. Seeing how she honored his traditions while embracing her own taught me the power of food in creating connection, something that continues to inspire my work today.
