Rising Stars: Meet Deb Kelley

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Deb Kelley.

Deb Kelley

Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It all began with a spark of creativity and a passion for words. As a young writer, I dreamt of making an impact through storytelling. Little did I know that this dream would lead me to create the WriteOne Creative Services, a hub for artistic expression and communication, in 2005 as a side business to my day job.

In 2005, armed with determination and a laptop, I founded my agency to provide top-notch PR, copywriting, graphic design, and web design services without the hefty overhead costs associated with larger agencies. I wanted to offer personalized solutions that resonated with clients and exceeded their expectations. In 2008, after a layoff, I jumped into my company as a full-time vocation and never looked back.

My philosophy is rooted in authenticity. I believe every brand, every business, and every individual has a unique story waiting to be told. I collaborate closely with clients, delving into their narratives, understanding their goals, and crafting compelling content that speaks directly to their audience. Whether it’s a play, a marketing campaign, a script for a commercial, or a website design, I pour my heart into every project.

I’m grateful as I reflect on the journey from a solo writer to the founder of the award-winning, five-star the WriteOne Creative Services marketing agency nineteen years later. My story continues, fueled by the desire to make a difference in the world.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being a solopreneur is no simple feat, especially when trust plays a pivotal role. In those early years, I naively believed that a gentleman’s handshake was sufficient to secure a client. However, I quickly learned that signed contracts are necessary for successfully running a business.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe you can tell us more about your work next?
The WriteOne Creative Services crafts eye-catching visuals that resonate with entrepreneurs and businesses. I create and maintain websites that reflect a brand’s essence. My background as a local reporter ensures compelling and effective communication.

The WriteOne Creative Services provides top-tier talent and design/print capabilities without the hefty overhead expenses. My focus is on helping entrepreneurs showcase their unique branding message. The WriteOne Creative Services isn’t just about business; it’s about building relationships. My commitment to my clients shines through. I’ve built a reputation that speaks volumes by relying solely on client testimonials.

One of my proudest achievements is the philanthropic side of my company, Life Amplified Showcase, which I founded to benefit grassroots charities. Life Amplified is a variety showcase that brings artists, performers, and community members together to raise funds for charitable causes.

Since 2014, I have produced 17 different Life Amplified events, the latest a 70s-themed affirming adult prom benefiting PFLAG Safety Harbor on September 28 at Carrollwood Cultural Center’s The Studio. Past events have been recognized as an Everyday Hero by Bay News 9 and a Hometown Hero by Fox13.

Beyond my agency, I am also an award-winning playwright of socially-conscious theatre. I was finalist for Creative Loafing Best of the Bay “Best Playwright” in 2023. My original play #NotOneMore about the survivors of a school shooting is part of the Tampa Internation Fringe Festival on June 8-16.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
The biggest risk I’ve ever taken is the day I decided not to return to the corporate grind and become a solopreneur. With no guarantee of a steady paycheck, it was a risky decision that paid off tenfold.
