Rising Stars: Meet Ailsa Marrero

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ailsa Marrero.

Ailsa Marrero

Hi Ailsa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I launched this business right after having my daughter and third child. Passionate about creating, I opted to stay home with my kids. A friend introduced me to jewelry-making basics, and from there, I self-taught the craft. Initially, it was a side hustle for extra income while my husband supported our home.

Yet, as my jewelry gained popularity, I started receiving invites to pop-ups, and boutiques began showcasing my pieces. Fast forward 5 years, and it has evolved into a full-fledged brand, with our designs featured in over 12 stores.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been a rollercoaster. Initially, we sold to friends and family, realizing it was profitable led us to register the business and venture into social media. Market days were a grind, setting up and breaking down for four-hour stints, hoping for success. It was hit-and-miss, and we faced losses. A shift to the wholesale market felt rushed, discovering challenges with turnaround times and production capacity.

Fortunately, partnerships with stores like The Maker and Merchant, Made Artisan Hall and Painted Tree Boutiques provided a brick-and-mortar experience. Now, we’ve refocused on our online presence, aiming to grow both online and in physical stores.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We specialize in crafting everyday handmade jewelry featuring natural and semi-precious stones. Our unique designs are made with tarnish-free and hypoallergenic Stainless Steel. From the beginning, my husband and I were committed to three things: delivering excellent quality, ensuring size inclusivity, and keeping our pieces affordable.

Proudly, we’ve achieved this with an average piece priced at $29, ensuring every piece fits our customers perfectly. We believe a little sparkle enhances any look, but at Nairi Handmade Jewelry, YOU are the most precious jewel.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I appreciate the diversity in Tampa; it’s a city where friendliness and a sense of safety prevail. There’s so much to love—from vibrant culture to entertainment, fantastic food, and sports. Tampa provides an excellent environment to live and raise children, making it an overall great place.
