Today we’d like to introduce you to Rick Rhodes.
Hi Rick, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey really began in the world of fashion. I’ve always been drawn to creativity — design, culture, and expression — but once I started building my first brand, I quickly realized that creativity alone doesn’t sustain a business. I wanted full control over every aspect of what I was building — not just the product, but the message, the marketing, and the impact.
That need for control came with some hard lessons. I learned what happens when you rely too heavily on others to shape your vision, and I saw how easily things can slip away from what you intended. Instead of letting that discourage me, I used those experiences as fuel. I decided that if I wanted to grow something lasting, I had to create a system that could sustain itself — one that didn’t depend on outside forces to communicate its value.
That’s what led me to media. When I wanted to expand my fashion line, I knew marketing would be the key, but outsourcing it didn’t make sense — it was expensive, often ineffective, and rarely aligned with my vision. So instead of paying others to promote my brand, I built my own media platform. That decision changed everything.
What started as a marketing tool evolved into Media Alert Press, a national news outlet powered by artificial intelligence and built on the principles of truth, transparency, and accountability.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been anything but smooth—and that’s where the strength came from. I’ve lived through chapters most people only hear about. After incarceration, I came home determined to rebuild, but the world didn’t roll out a welcome mat. Doors closed. Calls went unanswered. Some employers only saw my record, not my resolve. In those early days, I wasn’t chasing dreams; I was chasing a foothold, any role that could help me earn work credit and momentum.
I decided to stop waiting on permission. If there wasn’t a path for me, I’d engineer one. That shift—from seeking opportunity to designing it—became my operating system.
Education was the turning point, and I didn’t wait for freedom to start. While incarcerated, I committed to reshaping my mind and my future. I earned a Bachelor’s in Organizational Management (Grace College), an Associate’s in General Studies (Indiana State University), and a Graphic Design Certification (Vincennes University). Those milestones weren’t just credentials; they were proof that growth can happen in the hardest places. Every late night and every exam reminded me: progress doesn’t ask for perfect conditions.
That discipline translated directly into business. I didn’t just want a company; I wanted a self-sustaining system—something that could create value, create jobs, and create trust. That’s how Media Alert Press was born. I was still running my fashion line and saw how critical marketing and distribution were. Outsourcing was expensive and often misaligned. So I built my own platform—leaner, smarter, more accountable. What started as a solution to a marketing problem evolved into a national news outlet powered by AI, built to verify information, amplify real voices, and deliver reach with integrity.
The results have followed. Alongside the growth of Media Alert Press, my work in storytelling, journalism, and brand building helped me be recognized among the Top 30 Fort Myers Lifestyle Influencers in 2025, ranked #1 on that list—an acknowledgment of impact, audience trust, and consistent value in the community.
That’s the business layer. The deeper truth is simpler: every setback clarified my purpose. Rejection taught me ownership. Education gave me structure. Vision gave me direction. Redemption and success aren’t opposites here—they’re chapters of the same story, and I’m still writing it.
We’ve been impressed with Media Alert Press (www.mediaalertpress.com), but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Media Alert Press (www.mediaalertpress.com) isn’t just a business — it’s a platform built to restore truth, empower creativity, and give people back control over the information they consume. We’re a national news and media outlet that covers business, politics, sports, and culture, but at our core, we’re a verification platform. In a world flooded with misinformation and social noise, we research and validate what’s being reported — ensuring that what reaches our audience is real, relevant, and responsibly sourced.
Our mission is simple: Make truth move as fast as headlines do.
What sets Media Alert Press apart is the fusion of journalism, technology, and human insight. We’re powered by artificial intelligence, but driven by people — creators, thinkers, and truth-tellers who care about accuracy and impact. Our system doesn’t just report stories; it authenticates them, building credibility in a media landscape that’s often lost its way.
This entire venture started out of necessity. When I was running my fashion brand, I saw how much of business success depended on marketing — and how easy it was to lose your message when you handed it off to someone else. Rather than outsource my vision, I built a platform that could deliver reach and integrity, all in one place. What began as a solution for one brand has now grown into a multi-industry media network — one that gives creators, small businesses, and organizations a fair, affordable, and authentic way to share their voice.
Brand-wise, what I’m most proud of is that Media Alert Press was born from struggle but built on purpose. Every article, every interview, every feature we publish adds value to the communities we serve. We’re not chasing clicks — we’re building credibility. We don’t amplify trends — we elevate truth.
Our offerings now extend beyond journalism. We provide public relations support, media verification services, brand development, and digital storytelling campaigns — all designed to help businesses and creators establish visibility and trust in a time when both are hard to come by.
Media Alert Press stands for accountability, empowerment, and innovation. We’ve created a model that bridges technology and humanity — a space where accuracy and authenticity are the product. And the best part? We’re just getting started.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Risk has been a constant companion in my story — but I don’t see it as something to fear. To me, risk isn’t about gambling; it’s about believing in your vision deeply enough to act before the world validates it. Every major turning point in my life came down to one thing: betting on myself.
The biggest risk I ever took was deciding to rebuild my life from scratch after incarceration. There’s no playbook for that — no safety net. You come out with the odds stacked against you, and every step forward feels like a leap. But that risk — the risk of believing that I could rewrite my story — became the foundation for everything I’ve built since.
When I started Media Alert Press, it was another leap into uncertainty. I was venturing into an industry dominated by major players with billion-dollar infrastructures, and here I was, creating a media outlet from the ground up. I didn’t have the luxury of trial and error — I had to make each decision count. But that’s the thing about real risk: it forces clarity. It strips away hesitation and replaces it with purpose.
I risked time, money, and reputation to create something different — a platform that prioritizes truth over trends. Most people told me it couldn’t be done; that AI, journalism, and credibility couldn’t coexist in one model. But I took that risk anyway, because I knew the world needed it — and because I’ve never been afraid of starting from zero.
In business and in life, risk is the price of freedom. It’s how innovation happens. Playing it safe might keep you comfortable, but it won’t change your reality. The truth is, I’ve failed, I’ve fallen, and I’ve rebuilt — but every risk I took gave me a better understanding of myself, of people, and of purpose.
So yes — I’m a risk-taker. But not for the thrill of it. For me, taking risks has always been about ownership — owning my choices, my growth, and my vision. Without risk, there is no transformation. And without transformation, there’s no legacy.
