Today we’d like to introduce you to Onterio and Crystal Green. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Pastors Onterio and Crystal have been married for almost 2 decades and have spent most of that time in full-time ministry. For the last 5.5 years prior to stepping out on faith to plant Courageous, Onterio served on staff as Associate Pastor at The Potter’s House, one of the most Iconic and noteworthy churches in America. Raising their three children and helping them to identify their God-given gifts and callings is and will always be their highest priority. After five separate confirmations from God, The Green’s decided to be obedient, uproot their family, and relocate to Tampa, Florida to plant Courageous Church.
Their Vision at Courageous Church is to see Courage rise in the hearts of all people through the love of God, faith in God, serving others, and building community. We are a life-giving church with a heart to see people living courageously.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a brand-new church in the midst of a pandemic and an election year has come with many obstacles that we have had to overcome. Fundraising was a challenge with so much going on in our country that it could make the “ask” for financial supporters come across as tone-deaf. Recruiting a team of volunteers totally shifted in strategy as the pandemic began to increase. We had to go from having face-to-face coffee meetings to zoom coffee meetings instead. It’s much much harder to build connection without being face-to-face with a person, but we made it happen and people didn’t seem to mind it at all. It is a tough terrain because Covid has changed everything. We’ve had to be creative with making people and our Dream Team feel loved and special in a safe way. Covid has been a struggle but has also made us stronger and for that we are grateful!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
