Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Harrington
Hi Olivia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
From a young age, I experienced a lot of personal losses that I couldn’t process fully. There were heavy emotions that I did not know how to cope with. What I did have was my violin and music. In hardships, I found myself using music as a coping skill and for self-expression, When no one else would listen, I would play my violin as my “voice.” After watching my eldest sister Alex become a music therapist, I knew that I wanted to do that too. I got to witness the joy she experienced using music therapy to improve the quality of life for the community, Fast forward a few years, and I decided to pursue my Masters in Music Therapy at Florida State University. I recently graduated in May 2024 and decided to open my own business. In the Tampa community, I felt there was a lack of music therapy careers that aligned with the goals and vision I had for my professional career. After writing my Masters Thesis defense, I completed the board exam and became a board-certified music therapist. In March 2024, I officially opened up Motive Music Therapy, LLC., and that same month I got my first clients. I knew I made the right decision when I saw the impact and joy I was able to give others through music therapy.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a young professional, twenty three, and a woman-owned business, there are a lot of people who project doubt on my successes. While this can be an obstacle for some, this has ultimately pushed me to be the best music therapist and business owner that I can be. I strive to provide the best services to my clients as a music therapist and as a genuine person.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Motive Music Therapy?

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory would probably be traveling with my family to Ireland. We stayed at bed and breakfast facilities and got to learn more about both my mom and dad’s relatives and ancestors. I have two sisters so it was a ton of fun sharing memories with them and driving on the left side of the road was a cool addition to my experience. We saw sheep and tried new things, it will always stay in my memory bank.
