Hi Michelle, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Three years ago, I started freelancing on the side of my full-time job as a Marketing Director in New England after finding a passion to help small businesses manage their social media presence. After one year of freelancing, I decided I wanted to move back to Florida to be closer to my family. I moved to the Tampa Bay area with no job. It was scary, to say the least! I found a few full-time jobs in the area but none of them were fulfilling me. When the pandemic hit and we were forced to stay home, I dove deeper into working with small businesses to help promote them online. The need was much greater for small businesses as digital marketing was their only means for promoting themselves. As more referrals came in, it was time to make the decision to go all-in and create my own full-time business. In January of 2021, I created Your Media Squad, and I haven’t looked back.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It is not always a smooth road when it comes to working for yourself. In the beginning, there are months when you are hoping you will make enough money to pay the bills. It also takes time to establish a trusting relationship with your clients to allow them to take over some of their marketing efforts in order to help them grow. Having patience is what I believe helped me succeed.
And let’s talk about the back end of running a business! The banking, invoicing, and general office management is was all new to me. When tax season came around, I felt overwhelmed but it’s all a learning curve.

Your Media Squad helps time-strapped business owners promote their business through strategic marketing. We focus on local SEO, content creation, social media management, copywriting, and email marketing.
We are your outsourcing company for all things marketing! We can manage small business marketing tactics or be an addition to an already established marketing team. Our goal is to save small businesses time and money so small businesses can focus more on other parts of their business to grow their sales.
We can also create a plan for small businesses to execute themselves if they are not ready to outsource their marketing.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My business would not be an actual business if it wasn’t for my fiance. It would just be a side hustle that I did for fun and for a little extra money. My fiance is a small business owner himself, encouraged me to go all-in when we both thought it was time. He has since then guided me and coached me all along the way and has been my biggest cheerleader when I had my doubts about running a small business.
