Meet Mandy Schulis of South

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mandy Schulis.

Hi Mandy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I love and hate this question because there are a million different answers. I started because I had to figure out what I wanted to do with my life, so after getting my BS in Exercise Physiology from FSU in 2005, I decided to move back to Tampa and get a certification in Massage Therapy in 2006. Little did I know how beneficial this would be. My career in massage allowed me to travel the world, connect with multiple sports teams and attend some truly amazing events.

That’s not the part of the story I am trying to tell. The turning point happened for me when Covid-19 hit. I was unable to do massage and forced to sit and evaluate what I wanted for the first time, possibly ever. Fast forward another year after trying to jump back into massage, I was diagnosed with nerve damage and am currently recovering from this surgery as I write this. I am officially done as a massage therapist, but that’s certainly not the end of the story. I have decided to take my Master’s in Business, plus the 15+ entrepreneurial experience I have, and help other female entrepreneurs level up. I offer a combination of business mentorship and female empowerment coaching to support female-owned businesses in every way. That brainchild is The Schulis Creative and Mandy Schulis Transformational Coaching.

How did I get here? A lot of looking for opportunities everywhere, many blessings, and an even more refusal to give up. The biggest advice I can ever give a woman is to invest in education and remain teachable, humble, and real. No one likes a robot, and everyone has a story. Your willingness to tell your story might be what someone needs to hear.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I laughed out loud when I read this question. Not at all. I have survived being married to an addict, domestic violence, single motherhood, multiple deaths, and multiple health issues. Above all, I have learned that the ability to pivot and look for opportunities will help you thrive in any situation. Massage therapy was something I knew I could always make great money doing, and I loved helping people. But, I have felt called to do more to help my fellow fempreneurs for some time. Now is that time.

Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
I am known for being a bit of a potty mouth and for always shooting straight. I love making my clients laugh, and they know I will never be their cheerleader, but I am always their co-pilot. I specialize in helping women find their voice and, through that, find their truth. Finding their authentic self allows them to build the business they want, find the partner they deserve, and create the work/ life balance they crave. An empowered woman is unstoppable.

What characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to if you had to?
My father never told me I couldn’t achieve something; he only asked me how I would achieve it. This taught me always to take the result and work backward. This has always allowed me to stay aware of the details without getting lost. The other thing is my wicked sense of humor. I am fluent in sarcasm, believe that the best words start with F, and love to make people laugh! Life can be hard, but your attitude can make it easier.
