Meet Luis of Tampa Property Inspections

Today we’d like to introduce you to Luis.

Hi Luis, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m originally from NJ and met my wife through a video game in high-school online. We dated long distance for 4 years, getting married and moving to the Tampa Bay. The goal was to support her through college, medical school and residency, taking jobs that can meet those needs. I found myself working in HVAC for several years, initially planning to get my HVAC contractor license when I tore my bicep tendon and had a few other injuries. This had me pivot to find a new career that can cover all the living expenses and not wear on my body. Friends recommended that I try home inspections. Having an eye for small details, customer service skills and great work ethic, it seemed like a logical next step. So, while injured and recovering, I studied for my home inspector license while doing Uber and Lyft to supplement my income. I was fortunate to be hired on by MAX Home Inspections, now Launchpad/way point, and gained invaluable experience in the field. Starting as one of 3 inspectors in the Tampa Bay, I ended up being the sole inspector for a 80 mile radius in the bay. I then added in marketing and networking routes into my daily work, putting in 7 days a week for multiple years. Last year, my efforts in the field earned me my Certified Master Inspector title. At this point, my wife was nearly done with residency and several months pregnant. I wanted to be there for her and the baby, but the work kept me on the road for hours at a time and all week long. I decided to branch out on my own and start my own company, to give me the income I needed and the flexibility in my schedule to be there for my growing family. A year later, I’m now a proud father of a beautiful 8 month girl! My wife has landed a great position as a full time doctor in Tarpon Springs. I’ve also added an inspector to the team, and together we made it into the top 5 home inspection companies in Clearwater. This is all from consistent work, putting customers first, and amazing repeat clients and agents that refer us to others.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has not been smooth, but that doesnt mean it wasn’t good. I’ve always been told I am wise beyond my years and I think thats because I do my best to look at the silver lining. Every experience is an opportunity to learn, grow and, do better. At first, its “how do I get more business?” So it was consistent back to back networking events and meetings, following up and just being present. Then it changed to “how can I maintain the business?” Which came with being consistent, answering questions and being there for them when they had concerns. Once the baby was born, it was a bit of a struggle to juggle watching her and still running the business. As she grows, there’s new milestones and new challenges. But u was determined to be there for her regardless. That’s where Casey comes in, he’s the inspector I’ve been working with. He is out in the field, taking care of clients while I run the business from home and watching the baby.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Working countless hours for other companies, I understood how it felt to constantly chase that work-life balance. And from a customer view, I’ve been on the receiving end of poor customer service due to a disgruntled or overworked employee. That’s not what I wanted in my company. My mindset has always been, take care of the employees well and they will take care of your clients. In turn, the clients will take care of the company. So the goal was to create a work culture where employees can come in, and focus on work because they make enough to cover expenses, and have the time outside of work to enjoy it.
So far I can say that I’ve been very successful in this. Casey periodically calls or texts me letting me know how happy he is to work with me, to hear he’s paid off long standing debts, or able to go on a trip, take care of personal needs or hit a new record in personal income. All of these things make me feel like a successful business owner.
To top it off, clients leave glowing reviews, agents refer me to other clients and other agents. The mindset I had, is working, and the business is successful.
We work together now to consistently look for additional services we can offer to clients, meeting their needs and striving to be the go to home inspection company in the Tampa Bay.
We can now proudly offer the following services: General inspections, 4 point inspections, wind mitigation reports, mold Testing, well water testing, roof certifications, solar panel inspections, and WDO inspections through Termite Depot. We are currently working towards additional certifications for commercial and pre-drywall inspections.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
The industry, has been very inconsistent recently. So it is hard to say where it will be in the next 5-10 years. This is why we’re diversifying to do commercial and residential work. In this way, we can be there for our clients regardless of the state of the industry.
