Today we’d like to introduce you to Jim And Amanda Bradford.
Hi Jim and Amanda, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My father (Jim) and I (Amanda) started this business 12 years ago. I was a senior in high school and he was working for a major AC company at the time. He would come home distraught about how the company was price gouging its clients, and how they treated their employees like machines. I knew I didn’t want to go to college, so I suggested we open our own AC company together, one with integrity and honesty. He took his license exams and passed on the first try! Then Freedom Air Conditioning was born. I became our first installer, which is not common in the trade for young women to do. My father ran all the service calls, helped on installs, and took care of sales. I answered the phones while being in the field, and did all the admin work at night. We have since grown to 9 employees! Our mission is people focused: we are striving to be the industry leader in customer satisfaction, employee morale, and community impact. We want to prove that Quality can be affordable.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As a small business, COVID and the economy to follow were significant challenges to navigate. Thankfully, we had some great connections, mentors, and leaders in our life to give us guidance and wisdom during those times. Also, growing for us has mostly been through word of mouth, so being patient and trusting the process for growth was an exercise of self control!
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Freedom air conditioning and electric inc?
We repair, maintain, and replace residential AC systems. We specialize in inverter (or smart) technology for AC systems. These newer, more efficient systems can have such a positive impact on your electric bill and overall comfortability. Some things that set us apart are our installation practices and procedures. We take the extra steps to ensure the highest quality install on the market. We seal plenums from both the inside and the outside, we replace our vacuum pump oil after EVERY install (standard recommendation is after 5 installs), and we use 15% Sauder while brazing the copper because it melts at a lower temperature which reduces the risk of overheating components in the system causing premature breakdowns. We offer free second opinions, and free estimates!
Who else deserves credit in your story?
For Jim, his biggest cheerleader and person who helps him show up as his best self is his wife Mindy Bradford. Her endless patience, understanding, encouragement, and ideas have played a huge role in the organization. And honestly our entire team, from the office to staff, to the field, all embody who we are as a business and carries that into every customer interaction they have. We would be no where without them!
