Today we’d like to introduce you to Jezeel Bryan.
Hi Jezeel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m a proud Jamaican native who has called Tampa home for nearly a decade. As a digital creator, hybrid athlete, and wellness advocate, I’m known for sharing lighthearted and relatable cultural comedy, lifestyle content, and engaging video reels that celebrate Jamaican food, family, and heritage. Alongside my creative pursuits, I’ve served five years in the U.S. Army National Guard as a Logistician. My passion for health and fitness drives me as a hybrid athlete, where I engage in diverse workout classes, long-distance running, Norwegian 18.6 mile ruck march, and Hyrox competitions. I also manage a side page, @locsbyjez, focused on loc styling, maintenance, and hair care. I collaborate as a Brand Ambassador with Caribbean apparel, lifestyle, and wellness brands including Jam Roc Department, NORM, Wellnesse, and Made For Locs. My social media journey began during the COVID pandemic when I started sharing traditional herbal remedies, which quickly resonated with a broad audience and helped grow my online presence.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When I first came to the U.S., I faced the challenge of being an undocumented immigrant, which made many opportunities feel out of reach. Not being able to go to college immediately after high school was especially difficult, it left me feeling left behind while my peers moved forward. Leaving Jamaica and all my friends behind brought a deep sense of displacement and loneliness, as I struggled to find my place in a new environment. During my adolescence, anxiety and depression were constant battles that affected my daily life. Seeking therapy became a turning point for me; it provided the support and tools I needed to understand myself better and build resilience. Therapy truly changed my life by helping me navigate my emotions and regain a sense of hope and direction. These experiences shaped who I am today, fueling my passion for wellness and advocacy.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
What sets me apart is my resilience and ability to transform challenges into strengths. Coming to the U.S. as an undocumented immigrant and facing barriers like not being able to attend college right after high school could have held me back, but instead, I used those experiences to fuel my determination and start creating and sharing knowledge on social media. Leaving behind my home and friends in Jamaica gave me a unique perspective on identity and belonging, which I express through relatable cultural content. My openness about dealing with anxiety and depression, and how therapy helps, even now, shows my strength and commitment to personal growth. All of this combines to make me not just a creator and athlete, but a genuine advocate for wellness and cultural connection.
I am proud of my courage to face tough situations head-on and keep going because I am ARMY STRONG. Being able to turn my struggles into stories that inspire others, especially through my creativity and wellness journey is admirable. Also, balancing my passions, my service in the National Guard, and building a community around your culture and lifestyle? That’s something to celebrate every day!
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Authenticity is key to my success because it builds real connections with people. With all my achievements, being genuine shows others who I truly am- from my culture, my struggles, my growth- all of this makes my story relatable and inspiring. People can tell when someone is being real, and that trust keeps me grounded, reminding me why I started and what matters most to me. My achievements feel meaningful and lasting, especially if I am able to inspire someone to be better.
