Today we’d like to introduce you to Jarrod Blackburn.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Blackburn’s Interiors began in 1962 when my grandparents, Vernon and Louise Blackburn, opened a small custom drapery shop in Winter Haven. Their goal was simple. Treat people well and do quality work. The community trusted them, and in the 1970s they added flooring, which helped the business grow even more and is now what we are most known for today.
My parents, Wally and Diane Blackburn, later took over and continued building on what my grandparents started. I grew up watching them take care of customers and follow through on every promise. Those moments shaped how I work today and how our family looks at responsibility and service.
As the company grew, each family member found a role. My dad still leads with decades of experience and is the CEO. My brother Brett manages residential measurements and supports homeowners throughout the process along with the financials with the title of CFO. I focus on commercial projects, communication, day-to-day details and improving our overall systems with the title of COO. We also expanded into cabinets and countertops so customers can complete more of their project with one trusted team with our cabinet specialists with decades of experience Matthew Rodriguez.
Our growth has come from steady work and strong relationships across Central Florida. We have completed large and small projects for Legoland, Publix, Camping World, private schools, and public schools, along with restaurants, churches, offices, and many families in the area. No matter the size of the project, our goal is for customers to feel cared for and confident in the work we provide.
Today we continue to follow the values Vernon and Louise set back in 1962. Work hard, do quality work, treat people right, and stay committed to the community. Those simple principles built our company and still guide every decision we make.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The covid time was tough for us like it was for everybody. Materials were difficult to acquire for a time. But, we worked closely with our wonderful manufacturers and completed projects within our timeframes laid out for our customers
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At Blackburn’s Interiors, I get to help people create spaces they feel proud of. We work with flooring, cabinets, and countertops, and we handle everything from small home projects to large commercial jobs. I spend a lot of my time guiding customers, managing projects, and making sure the work we do meets the standards our family has held for more than sixty years.
We offer carpet, hardwood, luxury vinyl plank, tile, stone, custom cabinets, and kitchen and bath countertops. I enjoy helping people understand their options and what will work best for their home or business. On the commercial side, I manage projects for companies like Legoland, Publix, Camping World, private schools, and public schools across Central Florida. On the residential side, it means a lot to me when a family trusts us to help with their home.
What I am most proud of is the trust people place in us. When someone tells me they chose us because of our family name or because they know we stand behind our work, that means more than anything. I grew up in this business, and I saw how my grandparents and parents treated people. I try to follow that same path every day.
What sets us apart is the level of care we give. We are a family business, and we take the time to listen and explain.
We do not rush people. We do not push them into things they do not need. We focus on doing the job the right way, even if it takes a little longer. We also make things easier by offering flooring, cabinets, and countertops all in one place.
At the end of the day, I want every customer to feel like they made a good decision and that they were treated with respect. That is what our family has always tried to do, and it is what continues to guide my work today.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I have learned is that relationships matter more than anything. In our line of work, products change and trends come and go, but the way you treat people stays with them. I grew up watching my grandparents and parents run this business, and they always treated customers like neighbors, not transactions. That has shaped how I work today.
I have also learned that doing things the right way is worth it, even when it costs more time or effort. Cutting corners might save a moment, but it always shows later. When we take the extra step to prepare a job correctly or explain something clearly to a customer, it builds trust. That trust is the foundation of our business.
Another big lesson is that growth comes slowly and through consistency. There is no quick path. You show up every day, solve problems, stay honest, and keep improving your systems and your work. Over time those small things turn into a reputation, and that reputation becomes your biggest strength.
Most of all, I have learned to be grateful for the people who support us. Our team, our customers, and the community around us are the reason we are able to keep doing what we do. Remembering that keeps me focused on serving people the right way.
