Hi Jamilet, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The journey to creating Hablamigo began with a challenge I saw firsthand as a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP): the lack of Spanish-language therapy materials for Hispanic families. This gap deeply resonated with me because I often worked with families who needed culturally relevant and accessible resources to support their children’s communication development. It was frustrating to see such a critical need go unmet.
At first, my idea was to create a Spanish app tailored specifically for SLPs like me who work with Hispanic children. But as I reflected on the needs of families, the vision evolved. I realized that parents, not just professionals, needed tools to take an active role in their children’s speech and language journey. That’s how Hablamigo transformed into a dual-language app, available in both English and Spanish, designed to empower both parents and professionals.
Managing a full-time job while developing and running a startup has been one of the most challenging aspects of this journey. But it’s also been incredibly rewarding. Launching the first version of Hablamigo was a significant milestone—it was proof that an idea born from frustration could become a tangible solution. Along the way, I’ve been fortunate to have mentors from various fields who have guided and supported me.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that if the solution doesn’t exist, you create it. I had two options: continue to complain about the lack of resources and parent engagement in speech therapy or take action to address it. I chose the latter, and while it hasn’t been easy, I believe deeply in Hablamigo’s mission.
Today, my goal is to bring Hablamigo to every family that needs it. I’m actively seeking investors who share this vision and want to join me in providing essential resources to help children develop strong communication skills. I won’t give up because I know how much these resources are needed.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not.
Starting from scratch- from an idea to the development of an app, with no experience in the technology field
Time management- manage a full time job, a star-up business, personal life, etc.
And our current challenge is spread the word- now that the app is live, our challenge is to connect with the decision makers who can help us take Hablamigo to every family/professional in need of recourses to help children develop strong speech and language skills: (in the Department of Education, Board members of non profits who serve children and their families, private schools, private clinics, etc.)

What I’m most proud of is how Hablamigo empowers parents to take an active role in their children’s speech development. Often, parents feel unsure about how to help at home, but Hablamigo simplifies this process with practical tips and engaging exercises.
