Meet Heather Sabin Bryan of Myofascial Release and Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Sabin Bryan.

Hi Heather, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Heather Sabin Bryan, and I am a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant and a licensed Massage Therapist with over 20 years of experience. My mission has been to deliver personalized, compassionate, hands-on care with genuine results that truly last. After sustaining an injury myself in the year 2013, my understanding of pain and the adverse effects of immobility on the body, mind, and spirit was taken to a whole new level of awareness. None of my extensive physical therapy experience reduced my pain, and the discomfort and limitations were compounding daily. The little improvement I felt with traditional therapy disappeared within a few hours, and often, I could barely walk from the treatment table to my car without feeling the pain return. The only remaining options were surgery and pain management, which I found unacceptable. I was 42 years old—having a metal cage placed in my thoracic and cervical vertebra was just out of the question. That’s how I began my search for an alternative solution for both the physical pain and the spiritual defeat. Finally, I found what I believe is the missing link in health care today—the John F. Barnes Myofascial Release Therapy (JFB-MFR). My initial exposure to Myofascial Release (MFR) was from the founder himself, who I now call mentor and friend, John F Barnes. From the moment he laid his hands on me, I knew I found not only what my body needed to begin to heal but also the type of care I needed to provide professionally. I was so moved by the immediate and profound results of MFR that it drove me to study and train in depth directly from John F. Barnes. I am now pain-free, I’ve returned to all personal and professional activities without any limitations, and I love life! I have been so fortunate to receive my training from John F. Barnes himself, with over 700+ hours to date. The process of learning and refining one’s skills should never stop, and that notion fuels my dedication and desire to continue to learn. Each class I take for the first time or retake over again, deepens my understanding, strengthens my skills, and refines my touch, so I am always able to provide the most up-to-date techniques of MFR. As this healing journey for myself as well as for my clients has blossomed, my pieces of training have expanded to seek training from some of the major scientist that actually were the ones who first filmed fascia and drew me to Scotland, the University of Dundee to explore fascia and its workings right alongside the likes of Dr. Guimberteau, John Sharkey, Dr. Carol Davis, PT, Grahm Scarr and Dr. Niel Theiss who is currently on the frontlines in NYU researching Covid-19.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Once I found what technique was the most valuable for healing, my journey has been incredible. It takes work every day, but I am fully functioning and running my own private practice.

As you know, we’re big fans of Myofascial Release and Wellness of Tampa Bay. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
I specialize in Myofascial Release for a variety of conditions as well as the overall maintenance of our bodies. My practice sees clients as individuals and not protocols. I treat and listen to the client and work together as a team to provide lasting results. I always say I would like a client for life, just not an active one needing to be seen regularly on the table. This is not saying that receiving treatment isn’t great on a regular basis, but it should be based on desire, not need. I empower my clients to help heal themselves.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I always feel and say the day that I got injured when I took a fall off my treadmill as the best life-changing event ever. Had that not happened, my journey just might have been stuck in the cogwheel of traditional therapy protocols with marginal results. It is amazing to see and witness people reclaim their life as pain-free as possible.
