Meet Edward Reyes of The Reyes Firm

Today we’d like to introduce you to Edward Reyes.

Hi Edward, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Tampa Bay in a low-income family with roots in Cuba. We didn’t have much, and that shaped me in ways I didn’t fully understand at the time. I learned early that if I wanted something, I could not sit around waiting for it to happen. I had to work for it, keep pushing, and find a way forward. That mindset became a big part of who I am.

When I was 17, my life took a turn I never expected. I was involved in a serious car accident after another vehicle pulled out in front of me while driving on the wrong side of the road. We collided head-on.

At that age, you do not expect to suddenly find yourself dealing with doctors, insurance companies, medical bills, and legal battles. But that accident gave me a firsthand look at what it feels like when your normal life is interrupted in an instant. It also showed me how confusing and overwhelming the system can be when you are injured and simply trying to figure out what to do next.

Years later, I found myself helping others through those same difficult moments. For more than two decades, I worked with injured individuals from the medical side and saw thousands of people dealing with everything from smaller injuries to injuries that completely changed their lives.

What stayed with me was not only the physical pain people were experiencing. I saw the fear that came with not knowing how they were going to pay for treatment. I saw people without health insurance wondering where they could turn. I saw families dealing with lost income and uncertainty while, at the same time, trying to recover. And I saw people who felt like the insurance companies were not listening to them or treating them fairly.

Those experiences eventually pushed me toward the legal side and ultimately led me to build The Reyes Firm.

For me, this work has always been personal. I understand what it is like to come from a family that does not have unlimited resources. I understand what it feels like to suddenly be injured and thrown into a system you never expected to have to navigate. And I know how much it matters to have someone in your corner who actually listens.

Today, one of the most rewarding parts of what I do is meeting someone on what may be one of the worst days of their life and helping them move toward something better. It is about more than a case or a settlement. It is about helping someone get the right care, keeping them informed, making sure their concerns are heard, and fighting to help restore some of what was taken from them.

Seeing someone begin to recover, regain some stability, and feel hopeful again is what continues to motivate me. That is the kind of firm I wanted to build, and it is still the reason I do this work today.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it was far from a smooth road. I grew up with very little, and later in life, after I had started making money, I lost everything twice.

The first time was because I was young and did not yet understand how to manage money properly. The second time was even more difficult. A business partner committed fraud on his own behalf, and I ended up losing everything again. My houses were foreclosed on, my cars were repossessed, and at one point, my wife and I could not even afford to buy takeout.

Those experiences were incredibly difficult, but they taught me important lessons about resilience, responsibility, and continuing to move forward even when things do not go as planned.

As you know, we’re big fans of The Reyes Firm. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The Reyes Firm is a Tampa personal injury law firm focused on helping people who have been injured because of someone else’s negligence. We work with people during what can be one of the most stressful and uncertain periods of their lives, whether they are dealing with medical treatment, lost income, insurance companies, or simply trying to understand what comes next.

What makes this work especially personal to me is that I understand what it feels like to be on the other side of an accident. I was seriously injured in a car crash when I was 17, and that experience introduced me firsthand to doctors, insurance companies, and the legal process. Later, I spent more than two decades helping injured people from the medical side before moving into law. That background has given me a unique perspective on both the recovery process and the challenges people face when dealing with insurance companies.

At The Reyes Firm, one of the things we care about most is making sure our clients never feel like they are just another case number. Communication is a major part of how we work. We listen to what our clients are going through, investigate what happened and what they need, keep them informed throughout the process, and fight to help them recover what was taken from them.

I am especially proud of the culture we have built around being accessible and responsive. When someone calls us after a bad day, they are often scared, frustrated, or unsure of what to do. I want them to know that someone is in their corner and that they are going to be heard.

At the end of the day, the most rewarding part of this work is seeing someone begin to recover, regain some stability, and move forward with their life. That is what The Reyes Firm is really about: helping people turn a bad day into a brighter tomorrow.

What makes you happy?
What makes me happy is knowing that the work I do can genuinely make a difference in someone’s life.

When someone comes to us after an accident, they may be dealing with pain, uncertainty, medical bills, lost income, and a lot of stress. Being able to help that person get the right care, understand what is happening, and gradually move toward recovery is incredibly rewarding to me.

I especially enjoy seeing the change from the beginning of a case, when someone may feel overwhelmed and unsure of what comes next, to the point where they are healing, regaining stability, and feeling hopeful again.

Knowing that our team played a part in helping someone move from a really difficult moment toward a brighter future is what gives this work meaning for me. Seeing that kind of impact is what continues to motivate me every day.
