Today we’d like to introduce you to Donnamarie Williamson.
Donnamarie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My passion for planning has always been part of me, but my love for wedding planning truly blossomed after helping friends and family celebrate their special moments. Once I’m drawn to something, I dedicate myself completely. To gain a professional understanding of the industry, I began shadowing experienced planners in the area. This experience solidified my path, leading me to pursue and earn my wedding planning certification.
After working with my first couple, I was completely captivated by the wedding atmosphere. Witnessing the deep connection between two people and the outpouring of support from their loved ones is truly a heartwarming experience that I’ll never tire of.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s never a smooth road when chasing one’s dreams, but I wouldn’t exchange any of the challenges I’ve faced. For instance, there was that time when a bride was determined to ride a golf cart in her wedding gown. Wouldn’t you know it, her dress got caught under a wheel and tore! That day, I gained the invaluable skill of designing an elegant bustle using safety pins, saving the moment without anyone noticing the huge tear right down her backside. Now, a well-stocked bag of safety pins is an essential part of my toolkit.
As you know, we’re big fans of CoraMarie Events. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
So let’s talk about the elephant in the room: why the name CoraMarie Events instead of using my name, Donnamarie, like so many others in this industry? The reason is a meaningful one for me. “CoraMarie” is a blend of my daughter, Cora’s name, and “Marie” from my own. I chose this name to reflect the strong family values at the heart of my company.
This focus on family extends to how I work with my couples. I believe in treating each couple as if they were part of my extended family, ensuring they feel relaxed and supported not only on their wedding day but throughout the entire planning process. I prioritize being responsive and fully attentive because every wedding, whether it’s an intimate gathering of 10 or a grand celebration of 300, is important to me. I also love hearing all of the ideas couples think are crazy and helping them come up with creative ways to make that crazy dream come true. That kind of openness to share all of the beautiful, unique ideas only comes with trust and communication, just like you would have in a family.
One aspect I’m most proud of with Cora Marie Events is that I don’t offer one-size-fits-all planning packages. Instead, couples can start with any detailed planning service -The Oasis Experience, Serene Full Planning, Tranquil Partial Planning, or Month of Relaxation- and then customize the service to perfectly align with their specific planning needs. For instance, a couple would like the Month of Relaxation but also needs help planning their engagement shoot. They can add that service without booking a higher package.
What makes you happy?
Hmm, this is a loaded question. So many things make me happy, such as vacationing with family and friends, spa days, and planning weddings right down to little mini bottles of Tajin! I mean anything cute, cuddly, and mini will elicit a happy squeal.
