Meet Carlos Rolon of Dynamite Volleyball Club Tampa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlos Rolon

Hi Carlos, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Carlos Rolon, 48, married to a wonderful wife Nerys Medina, with 3 kids (1 boy and 2 girls) Carlos Jesus Rolon, Glennys Rolon and Karelys Rolon and living in Florida for 7 years.

In 2017, we were living in Puerto Rico but after Hurricane Maria hit the island we made the decision to move to Florida and start over again from zero. A year later, in 2018, my wife and myself founded Dynamite Volleyball Club Tampa with the only purpose to develop athletes in the sport of volleyball by offering high performance training with include maximizing their skills and talents to the next level. Teams are formed based on age and we have teams from 7 years old to 18 years old.

We started with only 6 players and more players were joining our club to the point that we grew to 14 teams and close to 200 athletes enrolled in our programs. We added Beach Volleyball, which runs from April to end of July every year and also we added a miniclub program for beginners with ages range from 7 years old to 14 years old

During these past years the teams at the club had won more than 50 Championships including I’m Gold, Silver and Bronze Brackets.

Several of our athletes had been recruited to play collegiate volleyball with diferent organizations from NCAA, NAIA and JUCO.

Dynamite Volleyball Club Tampa do not recruit players to build teams to win medals, We built our teams, developed them and the medals will come. Our training is not only focused to develop their skills but also to help them become better citizens that know the value of a being a team member, the value of their contribution to a team and the value of developing a mental toughness that will help them not only in sports but also in life.

Dynamite Volleyball Club Tampa, is proud to have the training program that is focused on the right things, The Athletes, and not in a trophy. Athletes grow at their pace and achieving greatness takes time and they inmerse in the challenge of achieving greatness.

Dynamite Volleyball Club Tampa also have a subdivision called Dynamite Cares, where we raise funds to help Parents to pay for their children club volleyball fees. Sports are not cheap and the ultimate goals of Dynamite Volleyball Club Tampa is to offer opportunities to all athletes no matter their family financial situation.

Many parents enrolled in any raising funds activities that Dynamite Cares offer and they are able to have funds to pay for the Club fee, or when there is a tournament that travel is needed they can use those fund to book hotel room, pay for private lessons, air tickets or even tournament admission fees.

Dynamite Volleyball Club also offer some scholarship when the situation merit.

Dynamite Volleyball Club also provide a lot of information to parents so they understand the game but we encourage them to not intervene in their children developing and let the program do the job. Those parents who are able to follow those instructions are the one who see their children growing in a faster pace and become better players.

Our ultimate goal at Dynamite Volleyball Club is to enhanced the athlete mentality, to enhance their skills, their potential and their self confidence.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. With a lot of struggles at the beginning of the foundation we found ourselves with little financial support to aquire equipment, gyms etc…

We only had $300 at the time of the foundation of the volleyball club. We use those dollars to buy 10 volleyballs and 1 cart. We saved again some money and were able to secure a facility gym with a volleyball court and that’s how everything started.

The support was little at the begining until parents outside of the club realize that the players who played with their children in another club were getting better and better and started winning some tournaments. That’s when parents outside of the club started to approached us telling us that X or Y player was with their daughter in another club and now she is much better player and that they want that for their daughter. That was the time where Dynamite Volleyball Club started to grow exponentially.

Another struggle was finding Coaches with the same vision of developing the athletes, in this era most Coaches just want to win a medal and they don’t develop players, they just go to tournaments and approached players from other Club to recruit them to build a team.

Dynamite Volleyball coaches need to have the mentality and the vision of developing

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson is to keep focused on the goal and not on the struggles. You can’t asked yourself why things happend to you or why, that doesn’t matter, what matter the most is to keep walking even if you have to walk alone.
