Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Sobh.
Hi Brooke, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I started as a Registered Dietitian working in the ICU at one of our local hospitals. I was noticing that not only was this VERY sad, but also I was not able to connect with my patients since they were all intubated or too sick to care what I had to say.
I love connecting with others and knew I wanted to be able to check in with my patients weekly and do things at my own pace rather than work at a hospital, day in and day out in a boring cubicle. I started seeing one private client and LOVED IT because I could spend as much time as I wanted with them and figure out their life story to help them with their nutrition and health goals.
Soon enough, I announced on social media that I would be taking private clients and it became a snowball effect where I was completely overbooked! Within months, I quit my hospital job and ended up hiring 6 more registered dietitians who now work under me and the business is thriving.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No way. I had NO idea how to run a business – I only knew how to be a dietitian. I went to school for science- not entrepreneurship. I actually would have never thought I would be a business owner given that there are so many moving elements to keep a business running.
In the way beginning, I decided to invest in a company that taught dietitians how to be entrepreneurs. This was a huge investment given that I barely had even gotten started but a piece of me knew that I needed to spend money to make money. This program helped me learn all of the things I needed to know like tax documents, lawyer fees, the legalities of running a business, etc.
Every month, I STILL get things wrong. Taxes are scary, the thought of losing STABLE income from the corporate world is scary, and working almost 24/7 is exhausting- but for some reason, I still love what I do. I was really scared to give up the stability of having a 9-5 job but when you think about it, I spent so much time driving to and from work, getting ready, getting gas, etc, and not enough time on what I wanted to do. So now here I am- 3 years later, living and breathing my dream.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We are a team of dietitians and we do 100% virtual- 1:1 phone coaching. You get your very own dietitian and we work on educating you on how to eat the best for your body instead of just giving you a piece of paper of a meal plan and calling it a day.
Our goal is to get you to understand what makes you feel your best and look your best without strict dieting. Lots of education! We teach about protein and calorie intake which will allow you to still live a lifestyle that includes your favorite foods but with boundaries. Most of my clients are tired of dieting and have lost and gained the same 20 lbs over and over. My goal is to be the last “diet” they will ever need because we will set them up for life.
I am most proud of helping men and women understand that they do not need to be super restrictive to be able to lose weight. I love that I can teach people to fit their favorite foods into their lifestyle while still sticking to their goals- this makes eating and dieting more FUN and less strict.
We offer a 6-month program to take you through all of the phases of nutrition. We start with a metabolic priming of your metabolism, a fat-loss phase, reverse dieting, and a maintenance phase.
We do weekly or biweekly phone coaching depending on what level of accountability you feel like you would do best with. I offer a free discovery call first so you and I can make that decision on what will work best with you. Please contact me so we can set up our discovery call and get the ball rolling!
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting?
Even though you don’t know what to do, just take the plunge. Find your niche and stick to it. I have many dietetic interns who I tell this to over and over. You have to start somewhere… and along the way, you will mess up and do something wrong. I mean, I still do.. but it’s becoming less frequent.
Also, don’t be afraid if something is not PERFECT. That will lead to procrastination. Some of my posts on social media have spelling errors… or I may mess up my words during an interview on TV.. but whatever, It still airs and nobody notices usually, except for me. I have started posting the bloopers of some of the work that I do because I like to show others that I am still human and I don’t always get it right!
