Meet Brittany Danley of Parrish & Sarasota

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Danley.

Hi Brittany , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My love for baking started when I was little, spending time in the kitchen with my dad. Every holiday, we baked together, it was our thing. That’s where I discovered my passion for creating desserts that make people happy.

In high school, I took up culinary arts and fell even more in love with baking. I had dreams of going to Johnson & Wales University, but at the time they were only accepting students from dual-income households. My dad was self-employed and my mom stayed home, so I didn’t qualify. That didn’t stop me though, I started teaching myself everything I could and learned through trial, error, and a lot of late nights in the kitchen.

Years later, I was in nursing school when life took an unexpected turn. In 2022, I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. It was one of the hardest moments of my life, but it also gave me a new perspective and a deeper purpose. Baking became more than just something I loved, it became my therapy, my escape, and eventually, my full-time career.

That’s when Babycakes Cupcakes LLC truly came to life. My husband Joshua, who also came up with the name, has been my biggest supporter and the backbone of everything I do. What started as a few cupcakes for friends and family has grown into a thriving business with a shared commercial kitchen in Sarasota, Florida. We’re now proud to ship our cupcake jars nationwide, allowing people all over to experience our signature meringue frosting and unique flavors.

What began as a childhood tradition with my dad has turned into a full-time business built with love, faith, and determination. Babycakes isn’t just a bakery, it’s a reminder that even when life changes your path, you can still create something beautiful.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every challenge has made me stronger and more grateful for where I am today. When I first started, I was completely self-taught, I didn’t have formal pastry training or a business background. I learned everything through trial and error, countless hours in the kitchen, and a lot of determination.

One of the biggest turning points in my journey came in 2022 when I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis while I was in nursing school. That diagnosis completely changed my path and made me realize how important it was to do something I truly loved. Baking became my therapy and my purpose, and eventually turned into my full-time career.

Another ongoing challenge has been trying to find a brick-and-mortar location here in Parrish. This community has been so supportive, and I truly believe Parrish deserves an amazing bakery to call its own, a place where people can come in, connect, and enjoy something special. Unfortunately, the cost of commercial spaces in the area has made that dream difficult to reach right now. But it’s still a goal I’m working toward every day.

Running a small business comes with so many ups and downs, from managing orders and shipping logistics to balancing costs and growth, but through it all, I’ve had the constant support of my husband Josh, my family & friends, and my loyal customers. Every struggle has shaped Babycakes into what it is today, a business built from love, resilience, and a whole lot of frosting.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At Babycakes Cupcakes LLC, We specialize in gourmet cakes and cupcakes made with our signature meringue frosting. It’s light, silky, and not overly sweet, something that really sets our desserts apart from the traditional buttercreams most people are used to. Every batch is made from scratch with high-quality ingredients, attention to detail, and a lot of love.

I’m probably the most proud for our cupcake jars, two full cupcakes layered with frosting and toppings, sealed fresh, and shipped nationwide. They’ve become one of our top-selling items because they’re unique, travel well, and make the perfect gift. Seeing people across the country enjoy something I created right here in Parrish/Sarasota still amazes me.

We also offer gluten-free options, because we believe everyone deserves to enjoy something sweet no matter their dietary needs. We’ve spent a lot of time perfecting recipes that taste just as rich, soft, and flavorful as our traditional desserts, you’d never even know they’re gluten-free.

Another thing that makes our cakes and cupcakes special is that our meringue frosting is naturally lighter in sugar, making it a great choice for both type one and type two diabetics. Many of our customers who are diabetic tell us they can finally enjoy dessert again without it being overly sweet or heavy. Creating treats that people with different health needs can safely enjoy is something I’m extremely proud of, it’s part of what makes Babycakes so special.

Beyond cupcakes, we create custom cakes for weddings, birthdays, and special events, everything from elegant tiered cakes to fun, themed designs. We love bringing people’s ideas to life and making their celebrations even sweeter.

What makes Babycakes truly different is the care and passion behind everything we do. This isn’t just a business to us, it’s personal. Every cupcake, every jar, every flavor is a reflection of our journey, our creativity, and our love for this craft. We’re proud of how far it’s come, especially knowing it grew from a home kitchen to a commercial bakery, all while overcoming challenges that could’ve easily stopped me.

At the end of the day, I want people to taste the difference, to feel the heart behind what I make. That’s what Babycakes is all about.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My biggest piece of advice for anyone just starting out is simple: don’t give up, even when it feels impossible. There will be challenges, there will be setbacks, and there will be moments where you wonder if it’s all worth it, but if you truly love what you’re doing, keep pushing.

When I started, I didn’t have formal training or a business plan, just passion, determination, and a lot of trial and error. Looking back, I wish I had known that it’s okay to not have everything figured out right away. Growth takes time. Every mistake teaches you something valuable, and every small win builds the foundation for something bigger.

Another thing I’ve learned is the importance of community and support. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, lean on people who believe in you, and connect with others in your industry. I wouldn’t be where I am today without my husband, my family & friends, and the incredible customers who continue to support Babycakes.

Most importantly, stay true to yourself. There will always be trends, competition, and outside opinions, but no one can do what you do the way you do it. Your passion and your story are what make your business special. Believe in that, and the rest will follow.
