Meet Brittany Carswell of Wellness Psychological Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Carswell.

Brittany, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My local business is a mental health group practice. I actually started my career working for another practice, then went solo, and honestly—kind of stumbled into starting my own group practice earlier than I expected. I always knew I wanted to build something of my own eventually, but the opportunity came sooner than planned, and it set me on a path I couldn’t have imagined at the time.

As my solo practice grew, I reached a point where I could only serve so many clients myself. I wanted to meet more of the community’s needs, so I began to expand. A few years later, when the pandemic hit, the demand for mental health care skyrocketed, and virtual therapy became a lifeline for so many people. That was really the turning point—the practice grew much larger than ever anticipated.

From the beginning, my mission has been to create a trusted, high-quality practice that balances expertise with accessibility. We’ve built a team of exceptional clinicians, many of whom accept insurance so that more people can access care. I’ve also made it a priority to collaborate with community partners so that our practice can be a trusted resource for mental health support in the Tampa Bay area.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not a straight or smooth road—though every challenge has shaped the work I do today.

On a personal level, my first five years in the field were tough. I worked for a company where I mostly did what I was told, and I started to question whether I’d chosen the right career. Eventually, I made the leap to private practice, and that’s when everything shifted. I invested in specialized trainings, found my niche, and reconnected with why I entered this field in the first place. That clarity changed everything. I went from being burned out and unfulfilled to energized and deeply passionate about my work. That personal journey is a big reason why I now specialize in high-functioning anxiety, burnout, and resilience in high-achieving professionals—I’ve lived that journey myself.

On a business level, I learned quickly that being a great clinician doesn’t automatically make you a great business owner. I knew less than I thought I did about marketing, systems, and operations, so I invested heavily in business coaching and support. Every hurdle forced me to grow—professionally and personally—and ultimately helped me build a business that aligns with my values, not just my goals.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Wellness Psychological Services?
My group practice is called Wellness Psychological Services. We’re a multi-specialty practice offering therapy for children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. I serve as Clinical Director, but I also still work directly with clients because that’s where my passion started—and still lives.

In addition to the practice, I recently launched a second, related venture: creating online courses for couples. My flagship course is called Relational Wellness Roadmap—a neuroscience-based skills program designed specifically for high-achieving couples who want to build healthier, more connected relationships. I also offer a fun mini course called Your Connection Code, which is a fresh, deeper take on the classic “love languages” concept.

The course business grew out of a desire to expand access. I’m often waitlisted for therapy, and I wanted to offer high-quality, skills-based relationship tools to more people in a more flexible, affordable way. I also believe in prevention—helping couples strengthen their foundation before they hit a crisis point.

At Wellness Psychological Services, our mission is to offer high-quality, specialized care that remains accessible to the community. Our team includes doctoral level psychologists and masters-level clinicians with diverse areas of expertise, so clients can find the right fit for their needs. Some providers offer self-pay specialty services, while many accept insurance to make therapy more affordable and accessible.

Personally, my two primary specialties are:
-Couples therapy, using neuroscience-informed skills and frameworks to help couples break out of conflict cycles and build deeper connection and intimacy.
-High-functioning anxiety, burnout, and resilience work with high-achieving professionals such as physicians, executives, entrepreneurs, and lawyers.

What makes my approach unique is the structured, neuroscience-based programs I’ve developed to guide clients through a clear, skill-building process. I pair education with experiential practice—helping people not only understand why they get stuck but also how to create meaningful, sustainable change.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Many people don’t realize that I’ve started creating online courses and building an online platform focused on relationship wellness. It’s still a newer chapter for me, and I’ve been intentionally slow and thoughtful about how I step into that space. I care deeply about maintaining the integrity of the work and staying aligned with my values, so I’m not rushing the process. It may not be the fastest path to growth—but it’s the most authentic one for me.
