Meet Ama Appiah of Tampa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ama Appiah.

Hi Ama, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was as a graphic design major in college but eventually went to law school after my undergrad studies. I have been an attorney in FL for over 22 years, but I have had the opportunity to re-engage with my creative side over the past 6 years. I founded a graphic design company, a.Appiah Designs, LLC, in 2020, and then launched a digital magazine in April 2025 called “Entertainment & Creative Arts Magazine.”

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth ride. It takes time to learn an industry regardless of what it is. Not to mention it takes confidence to risk rejection for putting your work out in a field that consists of people who have been doing the same thing for years. Building a clientele or audience is always a struggle if you don’t want to take the route of throwing large amounts of money towards marketing and algorithms. But if you stick with it, you start to see growth and engagement over time.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am the editor and publisher of a digital magazine called “Entertainment & Creative Arts Magazine.” It was created to be a motivational, inspirational and practical guide for people in the entertainment and arts industries, as well as people who just love the arts and want to know what events or exhibits are coming up. I am very proud that it has survived its first year of development, reaching new audiences and growth.

What sets this magazine apart from others is that it covers a wide variety of areas that people in the industry may find helpful. The magazine offers tools to get mentally focused to better receive creative inspiration. It covers discussions of current legal cases and topics that are relevant to creators and entertainers. It presents inspirational and motivational interviews with people who have reached various levels of success in the arts or entertainment fields, and their advice to those in the struggle. We also create interactive lists of upcoming music and film festivals, art and photography exhibitions, photography and writers’ conferences, book releases, cast/crew openings and calls for artists. It is a lot of information in a vibrant and fun presentation.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Before I entered the art industry as a professional, I was an arts lover. I regularly attended art and photography exhibitions and talks, engaged in screening films, etc. I read books in my very spare time. In the process of these activities, I met new people. People who talked to me about what they did in these industries, about their passions and about their dreams. I think that it is not as important to have a mentor as it is to have a passion for what you do and to enjoy meeting and engaging with people. That helped me to develop longstanding relationships that often acted as resources for the magazine.
