maur of In the Meantime with Mauria on Life, Lessons and Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with maur and have shared our conversation below.

maur, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
What often helps me lose track of time and reconnect with myself is shopping. It feels like a nurturing escape, a happy place where I can focus on what brings me joy. I enjoy spending hours browsing through stores, searching for clothes that resonate with my creativity. The background music adds to the experience, creating a soothing environment while I admire the evolving displays. Each store becomes a little adventure, and every discovery feels like a step toward understanding myself better. It’s a comforting journey that allows me to explore who I am.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Mauria (pronounced MOOR-REE-YUH), but I go by maur. I am a multimedia production enthusiast and the host of a podcast called “In the Meantime with Mauria.” I reach out to individuals whose voices inspire me and invite them to join the show. Each season starts with a specific theme that is explored through various perspectives in a moderated conversation. I have always been passionate about learning from the viewpoints of others. Whether their opinions are popular or controversial, I enjoy exploring into the thought process behind their “why.”

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
What I believed about myself as a child, which I no longer believe, is that I am shy and introverted. As I grew older, I realized that I consider myself more of an ambivert. I prioritize alone time to recharge, but I also gain energy when I’m in the right social setting. Through the time I’ve spent with myself, I’ve learned to tune into my own needs and recognize when I flourish based on my environment. I used to think that being an introvert meant I always preferred to be alone, which is true to some extent, but there are also times when I thrive off the energy around me. It’s a beautiful balance, and I’m grateful for the insights I’ve gained along the way.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
One piece of advice I would give to my younger self is to be more present. When I was younger, I often wished my life away. As soon as I accomplished something, instead of enjoying it, I would immediately ask myself, “What’s next?” If I didn’t like something, I would always think to myself, “I can’t wait until I get older.” I wish I had believed in myself in the present instead of hoping everything would magically work out in the future. I never took the time to appreciate the stage of life I was in; instead, I was always anticipating the future without fully experiencing the present moment. Little did I know that my future is shaped by my present actions. Once I changed my mindset, I began to notice a significant improvement in the quality of my life.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
What is meant for me will not reject me, is a truth I’ve come to embrace. I’ve experienced many situations that I struggle to admit were unhealthy for me, often forcing myself to tolerate them while ignoring the signs and my intuition. It’s all too easy to overlook the difference between putting in hard work for something that’s truly fulfilling and working hard simply out of necessity. Through these experiences, I’ve learned to be kinder to myself and to trust my instincts, allowing me to grow in confidence and feel empowered in the choices I make.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What will you regret not doing?
Looking back, I regret not being consistent with posting on social media. I would always start strong, but then stop. Instead of letting personal things prevent me from creating content, I wish I had used those experiences as inspiration. I regret missing out on the growth and connection that could have happened if I had stayed committed. I’ve since used my current situation as inspiration to completing projects I had set to work on. Starting with Season 5 of “In the Meantime with Mauria,” titled “Point. Blank. Question Mark?” This season will focus on challenging my current beliefs with the help of my guests. It will be available on September 28th, wherever you listen to podcasts!
