Life & Work with Sakeya Donaldson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sakeya Donaldson.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We started planning the camp at the end of 2021. We set out to identify 25 African American girls ages 10-17 from the Tampa Bay Area that would benefit from our offerings. We had each participant fill out a questionnaire and submit a 30 second video about why they wanted to participate in The Science of Beauty STEM Camp.

Over the course of the camp, the girls heard from a range of guest speakers in various areas of the beauty industry with a focus on Body, Hair, Makeup, and Skin. The camp was sponsored by Neiman Marcus of Tampa, Chanel, and Slarutan Labs.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was a lot of planning and a lot of things fell into place. As far as the actual execution of the camp it was flawless.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a wardrobe stylist. I have been in the fashion industry for 20 years. I have worked in print, visuals, film, and television. I have worked with Nicki Minaj, Zendaya, Jay Z, and Usher to name a few.

I am also an author. I published my 1st book ‘Fly Girl Approved’ in 2018. FGA is an A-Z guide of all things FLY. It is available on Amazon. I will be releasing my 2nd book ‘Fly Girl Quotes’ on my birthday, October 18, 2022.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Determination. I think that is the most important quality in any walk of life. I have an ‘I WILL NOT BE DEFEATED’ attitude. I think if you look at all successful people you will find that they all have this characteristic.
