Hi Roberta, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m Rob3rta, a DJ, music producer, and vocalist based in St. Petersburg. I was born in Brazil, raised in New York, and eventually found my home in Tampa Bay. Music has always been part of my life, but becoming a DJ happened later than most people would expect. It wasn’t something I grew up planning to do—it became a passion that completely changed the direction of my life.
What many people don’t see is everything that happens behind the scenes. Being an independent artist means wearing every hat imaginable. I’m not only performing, but also producing my own music, recording vocals, creating content, promoting events, networking, learning new production techniques, and managing the business side of my career. Every opportunity I’ve earned has come from a lot of persistence and believing in myself, even when things felt uncertain.
One of the biggest parts of my story is motherhood. I’m raising my daughter while building this career, and she’s the reason I keep pushing forward. There have been nights when I’ve DJed until 2 a.m. and still had to wake up early to get her ready for school. There have been moments where I’ve questioned whether I could balance everything, but she’s always reminded me why I started. I want her to grow up knowing that it’s never too late to follow your passion, reinvent yourself, or build a life you’re proud of.
Like many artists, I’ve faced setbacks. I’ve lost residencies, dealt with financial uncertainty, and experienced moments where I wondered if I should give up. Those experiences taught me resilience. Every challenge forced me to become more creative, work harder, and keep believing that something bigger was ahead.
Today, my focus is on creating music that reflects who I am. My Brazilian roots naturally influence my sound, but I also love melodic, progressive, indie, and organic house music. Instead of trying to copy what’s already popular, I’m focused on developing a style that’s authentic to me. Recording my own vocals has become a big part of that process because it allows me to tell my own story through my music.
Beyond performing, what I love most is bringing people together. There’s something incredible about watching complete strangers connect on a dance floor through music. For a few hours, everyone forgets about work, stress, and whatever they’re carrying. Creating that feeling is what keeps me inspired.
Looking ahead, my goal is to continue releasing original music, perform at larger festivals, and help inspire more women—and especially mothers—to believe that they don’t have to choose between following their dreams and raising a family. I want my daughter to look back one day and know that she watched her mom take a chance on herself, work incredibly hard, and never stop chasing what she loved.
If my story shows anything, I hope it’s that success doesn’t happen overnight. It’s built one song, one performance, one setback, and one small victory at a time. Every chapter has shaped the artist and person I am today, and I’m excited to see where the journey leads next.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all. Like many entrepreneurs and independent artists, I’ve had plenty of ups and downs. Building a career in music isn’t just about talent—it’s about resilience.
One of my biggest challenges has been balancing motherhood with pursuing a career that mostly happens at night. As a single mom, there have been nights when I’d finish a DJ set after 2 a.m. and still have to wake up early to get my daughter ready for school. Finding that balance hasn’t always been easy, but she’s also been my greatest motivation. I want her to grow up knowing that dreams are worth working for, no matter how difficult the journey may be.
Financially, it has also been challenging. Being an independent artist means investing in yourself constantly—music production lessons, studio equipment, software, marketing, photography, videos, and travel. There are no guarantees. I’ve experienced losing residencies and income unexpectedly, which can be discouraging, but those moments forced me to adapt, keep learning, and create new opportunities instead of waiting for them to come to me.
Another challenge has been starting later than many people in this industry. Electronic music is often associated with younger artists, but I believe passion doesn’t have an expiration date. Instead of seeing my life experience as a disadvantage, I’ve learned to embrace it. It has given me perspective, discipline, and a deeper appreciation for every opportunity I earn.
I’ve also had to overcome self-doubt. There were times when I questioned whether I was good enough or whether all the hard work would pay off. But every release, every performance, and every person who tells me my music made their day reminds me why I started.
Looking back, I wouldn’t change the difficult moments. They’ve shaped who I am—not just as a DJ and producer, but as a mother and as a person. They taught me that setbacks aren’t the end of the story; they’re often the beginning of the next chapter. My journey is still unfolding, and that’s what makes it so exciting.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a DJ, music producer, vocalist, and event curator based in St. Petersburg, Florida. I specialize in melodic, progressive, indie, and organic house music—music that tells a story and creates an emotional connection while still making people want to dance.
As a producer, I’m passionate about creating original music that blends my Brazilian roots with modern electronic sounds. I record my own vocals because I want my music to be personal and authentic. Every track is an opportunity to express an emotion or tell a story, whether it’s about resilience, self-discovery, or simply losing yourself on the dance floor.
As a DJ, I’m known for taking people on a journey rather than just playing one hit after another. I love building energy throughout a set and creating moments that people remember long after the night is over. My goal is always to make people feel something—whether that’s joy, nostalgia, freedom, or connection.
I’m also proud of building a career independently. Everything I’ve accomplished has come through hard work, consistency, and a willingness to keep learning. From producing music and running my own events to marketing my brand and growing my audience, I’ve embraced every part of the creative process.
What I’m most proud of, though, isn’t a residency or a music release—it’s proving to myself and to my daughter that it’s never too late to pursue a dream. I started this chapter of my life later than many people in the industry, and instead of seeing that as a limitation, I’ve turned it into my greatest strength. Life experience has made me a better artist, a stronger entrepreneur, and someone who truly appreciates every opportunity.
I think what sets me apart is authenticity. I’m not trying to fit into a trend or copy someone else’s career. I’m building a brand that’s rooted in my own story—a Brazilian-born artist, a mother, and an independent woman creating music that reflects who I am. Whether I’m behind the decks, in the studio recording vocals, or connecting with people after a show, my goal is always the same: to create meaningful experiences through music.
At the end of the day, success for me isn’t measured only by streams or festival stages. It’s measured by the people who connect with my music, the community I’m building, and the example I’m setting for my daughter. If she grows up believing that hard work, resilience, and passion can turn dreams into reality, then I’ll consider that my greatest accomplishment.
How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happiest is creating moments that bring people together. There’s something special about watching a dance floor full of strangers become connected through music. For a few hours, people forget about their stress, their jobs, and everything happening in the outside world. Seeing people smile, dance, and truly live in the moment is an incredible feeling, and knowing I helped create that experience is what keeps me inspired.
I also find a lot of happiness in the creative process. Some of my favorite moments happen when I’m alone in the studio and an idea suddenly comes to life—a melody, a vocal, or a groove that perfectly captures an emotion. Producing music has become an outlet where I can express feelings that are sometimes difficult to put into words.
Most of all, my daughter makes me happy. She’s my biggest motivation and my greatest reminder of what really matters. Everything I build—every performance, every song, every opportunity—is about creating a future she’s proud of. I want her to see that chasing your dreams takes courage, hard work, and resilience, but it’s always worth it.
I’ve also learned to appreciate the simple moments. Watching a sunset after a long day, spending time with family and friends, traveling, discovering new music, or seeing someone connect with one of my tracks reminds me that happiness isn’t just found in big achievements. It’s found in the everyday moments that make life meaningful.
At the end of the day, happiness for me comes from living authentically, continuing to grow as both an artist and a person, and using music to make a positive impact on others. If I can inspire even one person to believe in themselves a little more or forget their worries for a while, then I feel like I’m doing exactly what I’m meant to do.
