Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Williams.
Nina, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Music has always been apart of my life. From singing in my grandfather’s church at 5 yrs old.To performing in school talent shows and events. I’ve been following this destiny since I was a child. I still remember being twelve years old, singing for Broadway star Ben Vereen in front of the Sarasota news, a moment that solidified my love for the spotlight.
While I once considered the medical field working as a CNA/PCT for many years, my true desire has always been to use the gift God gave me to uplift spirits. I learned quickly that music heals and soothes the soul; I sang to patients, and later, to the children at Children’s Hospital in Washington, D.C., during my own daughter’s cancer treatment.
Through that journey, I realized my voice was meant for more than just song; it could also be used for advocacy. I am a voice for the voiceless: mentoring youth, sharing positive affirmations, and supporting women navigating crises like domestic violence, homelessness, and the challenges of single motherhood. My story is my testimony; despite everything I’ve faced, I refuse to let it darken my spirit. I choose to glow, and I am honored to share that light with the world.
Four and a half years ago, I transitioned from being the singer known for weddings and family gatherings to Nina Williamz, a professional recording artist. I debuted with my single, I’m Tired, a song birthed from my personal survival of domestic violence. The response was incredible, from stages across the Tampa Bay area to national radio on Shade 45 in New York and features on Afro Television in Orlando.
That moment continues to propell me from local venues to singing competitions such as American SoulStar show in Atlanta venue stages in Maryland, Atlanta, and beyond. Today, I continue to balance my music career with my life as a mother of six, fulfilling a calling that grows larger every day. My mission is to reach wider audiences, sharing my music and my life story as I continue to walk in my purpose.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road at all. Being a single mother of six while trying to break into the music industry is a constant balancing act. There were many days when money was tight, the schedule was overwhelming, and I honestly wondered if I was doing the right thing by chasing a dream that felt so far away. The biggest struggle was learning how to heal from my past, like surviving domestic violence, while also putting those raw emotions into my music for the world to hear. It wasn’t always easy to be that vulnerable. But I’ve learned that you can’t have the testimony without the test. Every time things got tough, I leaned on my faith in God and reminded myself that I wasn’t just doing this for me; I was doing it for my children and for everyone else who needs to hear my story. I’ve had to be my own manager, promoter, and my own biggest supporter. It hasn’t been easy, but every setback just pushed me to work harder and made me the artist I am today.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As an R&B artist, my work is all about using music to heal, inspire, and create magic. I perform songs that touch people in their places of pain and in their moments of love, while soothing the soul and making the world a little better. I’m known for being a voice for the voiceless and for creating music that carries a real message of resilience and strength. What I am most proud of is my perseverance. I have hit rock bottom and faced so many trials, but I never gave up. My faith has kept me going, and my six children are my daily motivation. What sets me apart is my ability to still shine, show love, and remain compassionate, no matter how I’ve been treated or how little support I’ve had. Even when people doubted me, I chose to keep pouring light into the world. That refusal to let hard times darken my spirit is what defines me both as an artist and as a person.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I am a big kid at heart who loves to be goofy and free spirited. I am a deep thinker who loves looking at the world from outside the box, and I have a real interest in conspiracy theories. I have not eaten beef or pork in eleven years, sticking to a poultry and seafood diet instead. My kids and I love to make our own beats by tapping on walls and freestyling off the top of our heads. I also love to cook and there is nothing I enjoy more than seeing people truly enjoy a meal I have prepared. I am just someone who loves enjoying life, whether I am exploring museums or learning about art and artifacts from history especially Egypt I find the pyramids fascinating, or simply looking at the stars, loving the signs of astrology I am very spiritually inclined and in tuned with my spirit and God..
