Today we’d like to introduce you to Jack Taylor.
Hi Jack, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My friend Jake Klopfenstein had always encouraged me to apply for an ambassador position at Angling for Relief, saying I’d be a great fit. At first, I was hesitant — unsure about the commitment and the amount of work it might require. But after enough convincing, I applied and was accepted. That decision turned out to be one of the best of my high school years. I quickly fell in love with helping children step away from their challenges and enjoy the outdoors through fishing. After many events and plenty of public speaking, I found my place within Angling for Relief — bringing smiles to children and their families. That sense of making a genuine difference was the most rewarding feeling I’ve ever experienced.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely wasn’t always a smooth road. At first, I doubted whether I could handle the responsibilities — especially the public speaking and event coordination. I had to constantly push myself out of my comfort zone, whether it was speaking to large crowds, approaching new people, or leading activities I’d never done before. Those moments of discomfort were challenging, but they ended up being the most valuable part of the experience. They taught me confidence, sharpened my communication skills, and showed me how much I can grow when I’m willing to take on something that scares me a little.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I serve as an ambassador for Angling for Relief, a nonprofit that uses fishing as a therapeutic escape for children facing serious illnesses. My role involves organizing events, teaching kids how to fish, and engaging with families to create a fun, stress-free environment. I’m most proud of the impact I’ve been able to make — seeing a child light up with joy after catching their first fish is something I’ll never forget. What sets me apart is my persistence and work ethic. I’m used to things not coming easily, so I’m not afraid to push through challenges or step outside my comfort zone to make an event or interaction truly meaningful. For me, it’s all about giving kids and their families a break from the hard times and creating memories they’ll carry with them.
How do you define success?
For me, success is about creating moments that matter. This summer, I met a family at one of our events who knew nothing about fishing. I showed their kids how to cast a line, and almost instantly they were catching fish — laughing, cheering, and lighting up with excitement. When they left that afternoon, they ran up to give me hugs and begged me to take them fishing again. That’s success to me: building smiles and helping kids forget, even for a little while, about the dark times that weigh on their lives.
