Today we’d like to introduce you to Daria Rybalko.
Daria, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
«A Social Mission and a New Life: Daria’s Journey from Merefa to the USA”
Daria is originally from Merefa, Kharkiv region. She has always been passionate about music, but life had its own challenges. At the age of 29, when war in Ukraine became a daily reality of fear for life and loved ones, Daria made the difficult decision to leave her home country in search of safety and peaceful skies.
Moving to the USA marked the beginning of a new life, full of challenges, opportunities, and responsibilities. Language, new rules, cultural differences — all of this was not easy, but Daria quickly adapted thanks to her determination and love for music. Within a week of arriving, she found a job at the “Sunny Bunny” school, while simultaneously continuing to teach her Ukrainian students online and giving piano and vocal lessons.
Her talent and pedagogical skills were quickly recognized: since December 2022, Daria has organized and conducted over eight concerts, served as a judge in music competitions at the University of South Florida (USF), and became an active member of the American MTNA association.
“Music helped me get through the emotional challenges after the war. It became my refuge and, at the same time, a tool to support others,” Daria explains.
An important part of her work is a social mission. Daria organized charity concerts such as “Children for Children” at the conservatory and “Children of Kharkiv for Peace,” aimed not only at showcasing young performers’ talents but also at connecting children through music. She believes that music can be a powerful tool of cultural diplomacy, bringing together people of different nationalities and cultures.
In the USA, she continues to teach talented children, adapting her pedagogical experience to the American education system. “The main difference here is the approach to the individual needs of each student. American schools place more emphasis on developing creativity and independence in children,” Daria explains.
Today, Daria has ambitious goals: to continue developing as a teacher, establish her own music studio or school, and keep connecting people through music. She is convinced that even in difficult times, music can heal, support, and inspire.
Her story is an example of how the power of music and professional dedication can help overcome difficulties, create new opportunities, and carry out social initiatives anywhere in the world. Daria has proven that true talent and commitment know no borders.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Moving to the USA marked the beginning of a new life, full of challenges, opportunities, and responsibilities. The transition was extremely difficult. Financial difficulties came first, as this was a forced decision: leaving behind her home, her car, all financial stability, and her job. There was no choice — it was a decision made under urgent circumstances, and she was not mentally prepared for it. Yet, her family did not falter; on the contrary, they seized the opportunity and dedicated themselves wholeheartedly, giving everything they had.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a professional musician with two higher education degrees, and I have been working in my field since 2012 as a piano and vocal teacher. Music has always been my passion, and it has guided me through both personal and professional challenges.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is, first and foremost, my family — their love and support give meaning to everything I do. Equally important is music, which I cannot imagine my life without. Through teaching, concerts, and musical projects, I strive to share the joy of music and contribute to its development and cultural impact in the world.
