We recently had the chance to connect with Steven/Joyce Arnold and have shared our conversation below.
Steven/Joyce, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about your customers?
I’m always surprised that someone wants to buy an item we made, not that I think our stuff isn’t worth buying, but someone thinks like me. When we make something its always in the forefront of our minds, is it something I would put in our house and be proud of.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
We are a husband-and-wife team trying to create memories for you or someone special in your life. Each item is made one at a time with the attention to detail that would be given as if it were a gift to one of our family members. With our love of crafting, the love of creativity we hope to make special pieces that people notice when they visit your home.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
For me and I can’t speak for my wife, but having children changed me. everyone can say that, but I truly believe it was for me. the joy, responsibility, and watching them grow into the adults they are today. Both successful and I’m proud of Andrew and Emily. Now I get to watch my grandchildren, which I love!
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There were lots of times, but my wife Joyce has always believed in me and us as a team overcame lots of adversities. Life has been good to us but there are always struggles. It’s not the struggles it’s how you come out of them.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
I believe it’s much harder to try to be someone or something other than yourself. People relate to authenticity and see right thru a phony.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
I wouldn’t say tap dancing! But I do enjoy work. I work in an industry that I meet new people daily. I enjoy hearing their stories, where they are from and their life stories. People are fascinating if you would only ask. People love talking about themselves if you let them.
