Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Ozzy Naranjo of Town ‘n’ Country

We recently had the chance to connect with Ozzy Naranjo and have shared our conversation below.

Ozzy, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
I believe integrity is more important than intelligence and/or energy. Although intelligence and energy are both very important, integrity prioritizes morals, principles, and good faith. A person with true integrity has good/pure intentions ONLY, while those without integrity are more likely to act maliciously. I’d rather have teammates with high integrity and no intelligence/energy than teammates with high intelligence/energy and no integrity.

Trading integrity for energy could be beneficial for those without energy, but who knows how their energy would be used in the future, without integrity. Trading integrity for intelligence could be beneficial for those without intelligence, but who knows how their intelligence would be used in the future, again, without integrity.

All traits are valuable, but the only trait that secures/strengthens a team’s morale is integrity.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello,

My name is Custom Motion, and I’m a 23 year-old recording artist from Tampa, FL. I started creating music in December of 2021, and I’ve written a plethora of pieces since then, but I did stop writing in June of 2023. However, I’ve released four singles, three studio albums (each with a deluxe), and a few SoundCloud exclusive tracks as well!

I like to touch on emotions in my music because I’ve been through a lot, like many others, and when I’m in the studio, I don’t feel compelled to hold back what I’ve been through. My mind feels free, and I speak whatever comes to it once the headphones are on. Music is beautiful, but nowadays it’s getting repetitive. It’s a lost art, and I’m hoping to return the trendy hobby back into it’s original form, or at least pitch into that desire/reality/dream.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
I’ve learned a lot about work through multiple outlets. On a personal level, my mother taught me a lot. I see my mother up early everyday to work from home and get through her draining shift. She used to wake up at 3:00AM every weekday to exercise in our garage, and she’s still prioritizing it. She’s a warrior.

Another warrior who taught me a lot about work was Kobe Bryant. Obviously I’ve never met him, but he was my favorite basketball player growing up, and an international icon. I used to be a marksman with the post fade back in middle school because all I wanted to do was ball like Kobe when I had first started hooping. Almost everything I know about work ethic comes from him.

My own life experiences have also majorly shaped my perspective on work. Experiences like work itself, relationships, conflicts, etc.. The more experience you have, the more perspective you have, and perspective is everything, if you’re open minded.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering is an underrated blessing disguised as a major curse.

You could thrive and reap the benefits of success, but without discernment, integrity, and intelligence, you’ll never know who is truly good for you while only knowing joy, and you should always be weary/aware of your circle, and never too into joy. Even if you’re living a very successful lifestyle, you don’t want to be unknowingly funding/fueling a snake that could bite you now, and/or in your future.

Suffering will reveal who is really there for you. Suffering could change the dynamics of friendships greatly. Others could reap benefits of your success, but there are little benefits to reap for others while you’re suffering. There’s a reason why many people say, “embrace the struggle.”

You don’t know the value of struggle until you’re done going through it, so stay strong, keep your head up, and get through it.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My friends would likely list loyalty, music, and the people I keep close in my life. I value loyalty greatly, I value my art greatly, and I value true authentic people.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I believe I’ve always been aligned in my true purpose. I used to never want to create music. I used to think I never could. I’ve always wanted to be a content creator growing up, and people would always mistaken me for an artist while I was pursuing a YouTube career with a camera in my hand, not a microphone.

I used to get messages from supporters telling me how my videos have helped them get through whatever they’re going through, and I’ve started receiving similar messages regarding my music once I started releasing songs, so receiving that, along with haters, lets you know you’re doing something right.
