Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Malana Bouarouy

Malana Bouarouy shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Malana, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Anytime I find myself in nature, it’s easy for me to disconnect and get inspired. I love getting lost in nature, and being present in the moment. More specifically, I love going to the beaches here in Florida and feeling the soft sand on my skin and hearing the ocean waves crashing on the shore. I have always been a beach person ever since I was little, and I think apart of me will always love the beach. It’s easy to forget anything that is going on in life, and just enjoy the sun and what the beach has to offer. I find myself becoming one with everything on the beach, and it makes me feel at home.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi friends! My name is Malana Bouarouy, and I am a 20 something year old based out of Tampa, FL. I’m currently working a 9 – 5 job while pursuing my dream of a social media career. I’m the eldest daughter and both of my parents are from Laos. I was born here in the United States, and hope to embrace my culture more and learn my language. I think what makes me different from most people online is that I have an open viewpoint on most subjects, and also have a very caring heart. My family means the world to me and all of those I hold close to me, I am the type of person you can rely on and will be supportive of whatever path in life you are choosing. I hope my brand online can showcase some of these topics about myself, as I continue to grow and show up to be my most authentic self. I hope to inspire others, especially Asian women that we always need more people that look like us in the social media space.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
I traveled to Cambodia back in October 2025. During my trip there, I didn’t know what to expect from Cambodia as I didn’t look anything up prior to going and wanted to be surprised. Once we got to Cambodia, I suddenly realized how blessed and lucky I was to having basic necessities at home. I stayed mainly in the Siem Reap area and most houses were huts with no air conditioning that I could see from the outside. Cambodia was extremely hot to me, so I can’t imagine how it feels everyday for them. The things I take for granted everyday is something that others may not even have access to, and I keep that in my mind all the time.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of being judged by others. I had learned over the years that no matter who you are, there will always be people judging you whether you do right or wrong. This definitely held me back for some time during my growth for social media, but now I have gotten over this fear and have been reaping the rewards. I just show up online with no fear of being “cringe.” I show up for myself and for the opportunities that I know will align with me in divine timing.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
I believe in good karma, and believe in taking care of my parents when they get older. My parents have done a lot for me ever since I was a child, and they still continue to be a big support system in my life. When they are no longer able to take care of themselves, I will be there to support them by any means – just as they have done for me.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel the most at peace when I am meditating in the mornings. It is quiet, and the whole world is asleep with no noise around. It’s the start of my day so I have nothing on my mind to worry about at that very moment.
