Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Kimberly Hendren

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Kimberly Hendren. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Kimberly, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Anything creative!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Kim Hendren and I own The Boozy Bookworm, a custom built mobile bookstore/boutique in Pasco County. Aside from owning a bookmobile, I also teach art workshops with this same business. So chances are, if you attend one of my art classes, you will also get the whole bookmobile shopping experience too!

I also started “Creative Connections”. It’s the networking group part of The Boozy Bookworm that includes our monthly art classes. It’s different than the typical mingling and business card exchanges, We creating a dynamic space for genuine friendships, artistic connection and potential collaborations. You don’t have to be a business owner to join us. We have people that just enjoy new friendships too. We cater to a diverse range of people and offer a different art project per month, that anyone can do. The Boozy Bookworm Bookmobile also does private shopping parties. My husband built this out of a Chevy Promaster van that we bought specifically for this project. It’s been a labor of love. It’s air conditioned and people can walk around in it. I’ll be all over, at wineries, breweries, cafes and bookstores. Many of these places I also teach art at.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was always a creative kid. A dreamer. I think I was expected to get a business degree and work in corporate America, for someone else. That’s what we are taught: that college is your only option to be successful. It just isn’t so. I did go to college, but didn’t end up pursuing that old agenda. Entrepreneurial goals were far more lucrative and enjoyable for me.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Not being good enough. I think many, may of us feel that way at some point in our lives.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
Going back to the old “you have to get a degree to be successful” way of thinking. The most wealthy people I know (I mean millionaires) have no college degree. Yet they are smart and wildly successful. I love that. I love not following the herd and paving your own way.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Probably stop saying yes and doing things I might not want to do. I’d spend more time with loved ones, maybe travel again. Enjoy life more. I do enjoy it now though, being my own boss is freeing and liberating.
